It's really hard to tell from those numbers. While some books are in the $10 range, other books are in the $100 range. Shifts in the number of sales or price per unit in both markets can hide the real trend in ebook pricing.

It's impossible to tell from those numbers, but that doesn't dissuade some from posting speculation as certainty.

You can't tell anything useful from those numbers.

For instance, last year there could have been sales of 100 backlist ebooks priced at $3.99 and 100 bestsellers priced at $16 for an average price of $10, while the year before there could have been sales of 10 backlist ebooks priced at $3.99 and 60 bestsellers priced at $11 for the same average price of $10. If you are someone who buys bestsellers rather than backlist books, then those $16 ebooks were a heck of a lot more expensive than the $11 dollar ones.

The average price paid for an ebook remained about the same. It says nothing about the average price asked, just that people weren't all that willing to pay more.
