The "small Whanganui" is the one that fits the CyBook.

Well, the cover arrived.

So I thought I'd spread a little bit of information about it.

It feels like it's made of well, for want of a better comparison, condoms. What I mean is that it feels a bit rubbery to the touch, and it would seem to be quite elastic.

It's a little big for the Cybook - a little wide, quite significantly too tall. But that's not a huge issue.

The seal on the device is in the catch, however the seal only prevents water getting into the sealed pouch, it does not prevent water getting into the catch.

This means that when you're finished surfing (I'd imagine many people will want this to read "Surfing for dummies") then you cannot immediately take the Cybook from the cover.

You can very quickly and easily dry the outside of it, and I believe you should do this. However there is water still held in the catch, and the only way to expose this so you can dry it is to open the catch, and by opening the catch you open the seal which allows the water in the catch to drop down and get to the Cybook.

The only way around this would be to hold the cover upside down and then undo the catch, and from there attempt to dry it out while making sure the Cybook doesn't slide out. Not something I'm going to do, or would recommend.

As for how long I expect it would take the catch to dry out? Certainly hours....

Which means that when I use it in the bath I'll then have to keep it in the cover until I'm sure the catch has dried before restoring it to the original leather case. Which exposes the Cybook to damage, I guess.

Here's a couple of piccies of it to show you how it looks in the cover and the catch itself.

Cybook in the cover

Only below the red line is sealed

As the cover is too long, you can just let the top flop over, and then open the catch, this way water can't run down into the bag and onto the CyBook.

That's right. But you still can't get the Cybook out because it's got to pass through the wet bit.

Once the seal is open, you could dry it with a paper towel. Personally, I don't bother, the worst that happens when I take the CyBook out is a drop or two of water on the case and I can't see how that can cause any damage.

I have used my ...aehm ... "waterproof" bag [see the second post] with great success.
This kind of bag is not meant to protect your ebook device in a shower or on a diving session.
It protects the reader from a dripping water and sand when you read on the beach and somebody walks by dripping water and scattering sand.
It protects the reader from certain destruction when you read in the bathtub and you touch the reader with a wet hand or splash a little bit of water on it.

It fits very nicely in a quart size ziploc freezer bag. I wouldn't take it underwater in one (why would you be reading underwater?) but it would certainly keep sand and dirt out, and it will work for bathtub reading, assuming you don't dunk it for fun. Maybe it will hold up to dunking, but I'm not going to test that. Hmmm, some toilet paper in a ziploc bag underwater might be a good test . . .

Well, I did use it the other night in the bath. Afterwards I dried the outside with my towel, and then I used a piece of kitchen roll to dry the inside of the catch, before sliding the Cybook out. Seemed to work fine. I'll just need to watch I don't get complacent.

Would it (or another size pac) fit the Cybook with the cover? I'm thinking of for when I have to commute on rainy days, I'd love some extra protection. I wouldn't want to risk travelling without the case.

I would use it solely for rainy days, not for baths or anything else like that. (Maybe if I owned a larger tub, but I can barely fit in the one I have. Not comfortable for long baths.)

The 9"x6" Aloksak is an almost perfect fit. They're rated down to 200'/60m

Hey guys, I've just bought the Large PDA Case (Code 364) from Aquapac. My Cybook fits quite nicely, here are some photos:

My First Bath with my Cybook

Well, in another thread I talked about getting a bath caddy for my birthday, which, in fact, I did thanks to OH.
First time I tried it out was a bit of a nightmare: there was nothing to keep the pages of the book open, the wine glass holder isn't suitable for a 'normal' wine glass and I didn't get the candle stuck in right so as soon as it got jiggled it fell in the bath!
Not to be daunted, today I went out for a waterproof cover for my Cybook (which I got last Saturday) and got one from Lakeland in town. 3 in a pack but was comparitively cheap and I can get my Cybook plus cover (flat folded back) in the largest one with decent access to all the buttons. Medium one is too small to get the device in, even without cover. It's secured with 3 ziplocks (? like you get on food bags?) which you then roll over with a velcro and stud flap to protect it (similar to others that have been described here).
Remembering to secure the candle by melting some wax at the bottom, I ventured forth, and it was an overwhelming success! Now all I need is to source a suitable wine glass!

That is definitely something a guy would not do. We just prefer to get in the shower, do what we need to do and get out so we can go back to reading.

I'm a guy and I love reading in the bath!
Phone off the hook, boiler going full pelt for regular top-ups - bliss .
