That makes sense - but I can't help wondering why the Kindle uses less power when being put to sleep between reads rather than totally powered off and on, and yet the Kobo is the other way around.

Related issue: I am loathe to turn the Kobo and and off because I am afraid the chintzy little button will break sooner that way. |

On holiday, the only time I read for 6 hours a day, my Touch lasts 2-3 days. I never power off until i charge it, I think 'it' does it then.
The touch screen is fine, I never have an issue with page turns or taps to access an icon. I have just over 50 books. I don't need them all and thought if I deleted them they would reappear each sync. Great if that isn't the case, answers on a postcard please! I like using mine in a cover but was disappointed the back wasn't soft...it looked it. I have some moans with Kobo.com! but the Touch is a good machine. |

What you do on your Touch, is sent to the Kobo servers when you sync. If you finish a book on your Touch and delete it, that will be reflected on the server and the book will NOT download again. You can move it back onto your reader by going to the Purchased section of your library on Kobobooks.com and bookmarking the book. It will then be part of the I'm Reading flow again.

I usually get a couple of weeks battery life if I read two hours a day and that's with letting it sleep when I'm not reading it (all day) and then powering down at night.. Some people have problems with the Touch screen but mine works great.
There is a plug-in that you can install on the Kobo Touch to get Shelves/folders, the plug-in is just copy and paste so it's really easy to install. Last edited by The Terminator; 05-30-2012 at 12:42 AM. |

I usually read between one to two hours a day (I always turn mine off, between extended non-reading times) and my battery lasts at least a month between charges. Of course I am a slow reader (slow reader = less page turns per hour) so that might make my battery seem to last longer. |

You guuuuuys! You're convincing me to buy the KT much sooner than anticipated! I'm trying to save for a new setup for my fish... Not a reader!

I love my Kobo Touch, but I wouldn't buy one now unless I needed one right now. It's likely to be near the very end of the product cycle, which means (a) a new one with new features will probably come out soon (Frontlit? Faster? Collections? Who knows?), and (b) when it does, the KT may well drop precipitously in price.

I would also wait, as good as the Kobo reader is. I'm hoping for a new one this summer some time.

Kobo Touch $A119- from OfficeWorks in Australia, that's loose change !
Get the Touch now, if a new Kobo comes out, get it too Some posters in these forums have half a dozen eReader devices, or six even ! I use a SkinDigital black leather case on my Kobo Touch, it's very cute and makes a real book reading experience, recommended ! |

It's built into the firmware already, but the plug-in activates it, Kobo has said that it could possible break the feature when it is officially released, and a factory reset would be needed, which really isn't that bad. so it's pretty safe to use. |

"The Gadget Show" on C5 tested Kobo Touch vs. Kindle Touch
http://youtu.be/KQtuQ2m7kdQ Kindle touch "landscape mode"? a throwaway comment, but is that landscape, any book format? The Kobo Touch can go landscape for PDF viewing, and that's it! The screen of the Kindle Touch was reckoned to be better, and the Kindle Touch also has audio capability. If the Kindle Touch had been available in the UK at the same time as the Kobo Touch, my mum would not be a Kobo user now. Comparing the price that Kobo can be found for, maybe it doesn't need to face the Kindle feature for feature - if you want audio on your reading device, then the Kobo touch is not for you. |
