I will go out on a limb and state that Apple MUST have a 7" tablet by Christmas!
Ah, a Dylan reference!

This is why I would bet the house on the NanoPad being more than a rumor. Adapt or die. Or make a lot less money, anyway.

If Google comes out with a quad-core $249 7" tab Android market share will increase. More users, more developers make more apps, more apps = more users, and the circle of profit continues...

Apple is many things, good and bad. But stupid? Not so much.

I don't think Apple is going to loose the tablet market leadership to Android anytime soon as unlike smartphones, Screen sizes and different hardware configurations are not going to sell more tablets. So if Apple released a 7inch Ipad at competitive prices it would stay as the market leader

I will give credit to the Apple engineers, yes.
After that I will have to bite my tongue.

Vaporpunk say "Every great attempt at achieving market domination begins with a small price war". Okay, so I kinda stole/paraphrased that a bit...

Jelly Bean, not Ice Cream Sandwich

Thanks to some diligent detective work performed by Android Police, we now have (non-official) confirmation that Google is working with Asus to produce a 7-inch tablet called the Nexus 7. Under the hood there’s a quad-core Tegra 3 clocked at 1.3GHz, and a 1280×768 display (213 PPI). The new device will run Android Jelly Bean, but the version number will be 4.1, not 5.0.

ICS unified the phone and tablet OS-es. From this point forwards, there will only be one OS to rule them all. JB will work both on tablets and phones.

Lol.

iPple has been deslarately, humiliatingly trying to assert proprietary ownership of rectangular shapes and of rounded corners...because added hardware features don't sell.

Uh-huh.
Right.

Maybe. Apple ceo:

Quote:
The iPad has been unbelievable, really. I’ve never seen a product in technology that consumers loved, pretty instantly, and business loved, and education loved, and people of all ages loved. I think we’re in the first inning on it.
Also:

Quote:
Our north star is to make the best product. Our objective isn’t to make this design for this kind of price point, or for this arbitrary schedule, or line up other things or have X number of phones, it’s to build the best.

And so that doesn’t preclude, there’s not a policy or a commandment, Thou Shalt Have One or whatever. We have an overriding belief of making the best. And so if we find we can do more, great. Do we have to? I think one of our advantages is that we’re not fragmented. If you look at when we introduce a new OS, iOS 5, it’s amazing the percentage of our installed base that’s on the latest OS. That’s not true on Android. We have one App Store. It’s simple and straightforward and all the apps are there. We have one phone with one screen size and one resolution, and so it’s pretty simple if you’re a developer.
and

Quote:
Cook tried to give an explanation about how Apple decides whether or not to enter any product category.

“We’d look and ask, can we control the key technology? Can we make a significant contribution far beyond what others have done in this area? Can we make a product that we all want? This is sort of how we think.”

I just read up on it.

Will have these important additions:
1) File manager
2) ability to boot MS Windows
3) Google Chrome

Doggone it.

Will my Galaxy Tab 7 plus get it? Especially the MS Windows capablity.

Samsung have not been the best at pushing updates, so it may take a while for your Tab to get JB. But there are always the Cyanogen builds for those not wanting to wait.

I don't usually have time to get into the super duper technical tweaks that a lot of you guys (and gals) do. As long as the device will somewhat do what I wish, I am ok.

I do carry a little net book in my travel duffel and that usually suffices if I am going to write or do a lot of browsing, but it would be nice to reduce to just one device besides my Kindle of course.

Of course at the same time I have been considering getting a Galaxy 5.0 Player WiFi for less than $200 since I decided that $500-600 was too much to pay for a Galaxy Note. The only thing holding me back is I want 1024 pixels or there about. It would be nice to be able to have something a little more portable than a 7" tablet and of course the keyboard Kindle is the equivalent size of a 7" tablet.

Besides my lady is stingy with my Galaxy Tab 7.0 plus. I do put my foot down on the Kindle though.

This makes me think about the B&N + MS situation. In the "Microsoft & Barnes and Noble sittin' in a tree..." thread people were speculating about what OS the Nook will get. It looks like there might not be a reason to choose.
