Each genre has its own discovery/education process as each genre is its own subcuture with its own literary language and history. Just because you're familiar/fluent in one doesn't mean you're competent to judge a different one.
Whether it be analysis or merely consumerist recommendation, you need to use whatever tool comes closest to your specific needs.

If a book has literary value it is irrelevant to me. I read what I enjoy. I can work out for myself in the first 4 or 5 pages if the book draws me in.

I understand learning via reading. But I prefer the facts then not how it is wrapped.
