I think in the past staff were also told not to use any of the translation tools from sites such as Google... so nothing new here.

IBM is only being slightly paranoid. They have a valid concern. Some day, I say in the next decade, we'll have enough processing power for the work to be all done on the handset. Meanwhile Siri's service (and Dragon Dictate and any similar) has to do something to prove the security AND confidentiality of their service.
This is fairly similar to the "don't put anything in the cloud that you wouldn't want anyone else to read" advice. We hear about on-line security breaches and even encryption bypasses almost every day now. |

In a more Siri- related note, has anyone wondered what happens if its listening while you're really angry at it and just happen to threaten to do incredibly violent things to it? Like ripping out its motherboard, nailing it to a tree, and shooting at it with elephant guns? Cause there's times when I'm *that* angry at my computer, and I'd like to be sure that it can't call the cops... |

What I trying to point out in my previous post is that I don't understand what I would "wait" for. Email notifications would tell me if I have received an email. |

And everything is intended to be generic because I don't own any iPhone but friends do... personally I prefer my Android smartphone... ![]() Last edited by elcreative; 05-24-2012 at 10:19 AM. |

So far, Siri works for us about 1/4 of the time.
When it works, it's great! But we're likely to get messages that Siri can't help us right now, or she thinks my wife is me, or my wife uses my name "Jan" and a calendar page for January comes up. In other words, it's about as accurate as voice recognition always has been, IMO. |

Siri is just about as useful for this as the robot arm in The Big Bang Theory for unpacking food. |

But mom doesn't title it recipe, that's an afterthought... it's How are you and the kids and I've got ten others as well so siri does the work... I light a cigar outside, flip the phone, ask about the recipe and siri says yea or nay and I'm done... that's the idea behind it... no checking, reading looking at notifications... a one-handed swipe and statement and use or forget depending on answer...
How effective is another question but it's a great idea and better than notifications etc which require interventions/actions apart from the most basic... no need to even open any email app just ask... ![]() |
