I use wired and wireless. My Towers are all wired. Laptops, Phones, Satellite TV, Ebooks and Blue Ray Players are all wireless.

the only devices i have that can go online are my laptop and my 360. both are in the living room within mere feet of each other so wireless is totally unnecessary. i have one ethernet cord i swap between the 2 depending on what i'm using

I have a wireless router...and it has 4 ethernet cords connecting it to my devices. I'm paranoid, too.

Interesting exercise. I just checked and I have a total of 36 static allocated IP's running on the hard wired and three wireless networks. I didn't realize it was that many, though I don't think they'd ever all be online at the same time.
Towers, network machines, gaming devices and media players are hard wired. Laptops are, usually but not always, wireless as are tablets, smart phones and ereaders. I usually sideload my ereader though, so I guess it's semi-hard wired. I haven't noticed any Cylon attack so far, but I suppose the really good ones don't get noticed, do they? |

Not quite that bad but I use MAC filtering (yeah I know) on my wireless router and there are currently 17 active devices listed. Cables? Pfft.
I shouldn't really NEED four tablets, should I? I'm also a sucker for collecting cheap and nasty Chinese and Korean game handhelds. |

I also use MAC address filtering and WPA PSK2. I CAN see on my router all systems that attempt to connect to my Wifi and there's been no unauthorised attempts.
I realise MAC address filtering can be hacked as well, but still I'm reasonably confident I'm ok. I store all data on a NAS which is also password protected, so I think any potential hackers will probably pick easier targets than my system. There's still loads of people using WEP out there which is trivially easy to hack. Last edited by danskmacabre; 05-21-2012 at 08:02 AM. |

I do both. It depends on the device and how well in runs on wireless versus connected. My Blu-rays are all connected as is one of my laptops. The other two are wireless, and so are some of my other devices.

Harsh? I suppose so, but I'm happy. I also don't buy "phone home" software, period. I bought a Toshiba thrive tablet and shelved it. Even the "free" software made you "phone home" by giving out your e-mail address. That's none of your business. I'll stay with my netbook, thank you. (Assuming I carry anything at all. Y'all ever heard of a map? Or planning ahead?) (Fizzy Water and I are just good friends....) |

I'm not paranoid... I just have very little reason to run willy-nilly around the house while simultaneously accessing the internet. I still sit down at a desk when using my computer (and I don't have any mobile wifi devices), so it may as well be plugged in. *shrugs*
