There is a back button on my 300 but it doesn't step back through footnotes, only up a stage to opening the book or getting back to the initial screen.

re: the question of how might be the best way to style the links - including a page at the beginning directly telling your reader that by clicking on a red hyperlink or → symbol (for example) will take them somewhere might be easiest. i've found that anything that's not immediately intuitive in e-reader space is really confusing, and quickly becomes disorienting if you end up at some seemingly random location in the book.
