My K3 is right next to me on my nightstand with my phone and Kindle Fire and I've never had a problem sleeping. I charge my K4 sometimes upstairs overnight so that makes two eInk readers next to me and no sleeping problems here.

I often fall asleep while reading on my Kindle. Thus, I can honestly say it is not keeping me awake at night.

My reader frequently keeps me awake all night. But then so do paper books.

What exactly would you say is causing this sleep disturbance? How could an e-ink reader possibly interfere with sleep? Does it send out invisible rays or something? ![]() In all the posts relating to ebook readers, this is the most odd.......I"m just sayin'........... |

I always read on my e-reader before going to sleep and leave it on the bedside table while I sleep. I've never had any issues like you describe.

My Kobo Touch sleeps in my night stand and I don't notice any difference.

I have lost a great deal of sleep time from e-ink readers being too close to the bed. And if I had a screen-light I'd suffer even more.

I have to know I've put mine aside before I can sleep, or I'd have a nightmare about it for sure. I never could sleep with the kids in bed with me either. |

When it comes to humans and electromagnetic fields, I'm not sure we're all affected the same way. As a Physics grad student, I used to demonstrate in the second year Engineering Lab course. There was one experiment where the students pulled a coil of wire out from between the poles of a magnet, and computed the magnetic field based on how much current was generated by that. One pair of students kept getting nonsensical results, no matter how meticulous they were. After much frustration, one wandered away to get a drink of water, and his partner started getting the right results immediately. We tried again and again with the student at various distances from the equipment, and found that he was definitely affecting the measurements. He claimed afterwards that electronic watches never kept the right time when he wore them, and he had to stick to mechanical watches. After seeing that, I'm willing to believe that some of us are different.

I fall asleep all the time with my e-reader in my lap, and pretty much always sleep with my kindle on my nightstand. It might be a psychological thing rather than a magnetic field thing. Either way if it makes you sleep better it doesn't hurt to put it in another room.

I had a friend who couldn't sleep unless his head was pointed north. Me, I have to get up three or four times a night to go pee but I don't blame my Kindle. It sits by my bed and doesn't seem to bother me.
