If one 'e-binding' is not considered cheating either, you could merge them all into one huge e-book.

No, we are not cheating, of course (although we may be moving away from the OP's intentions a bit ).

I don't know, but I have something like it: Keith Laumer 'Collected Works'...

The Count Pages plugin says 6972 pages, the Calibre ebook viewer says 10.312. It's a 7 MB MOBI with no illustrations whatsoever.

mmm. a bit of a quandary... but for one go.... in no particular order

House of the Dead: maybe the best of Dostoyevski

Waiting for the Barbarians.....J.M. Coetzee

The Hunger....Knut Hamsun.... For all Writers...and want to be writers

Post Office.... Charles Bukowski.... cause yes..most of us have had crap jobs in our lives..

Woman in the Dunes.... Abe Kobo.... cause a year on an Desert Island would start to make me go KRAZY

but if I had a pencil and a pad.... I would love to write some songs as good as Tom Waits... Paint some Paintings... Like Hieronymus Bosch...if there were some nice Mushrooms to help my paining... .... and write a poem or 100 like Yeats...... Sappho.....how shall I start? Que sera sera...?

I usually just read a book, but I have started reading the cliff notes as I read Great Expectations. I did the same thing when I read Tale of Two Cities and really enjoyed it. This year instead of going for a reading goal, I was intending to write about the books I read. Hasn't quite happened the way I wanted, but its been more enjoyable.

As for the 5 books, thats tough. I do reread some books, but not a lot of them. I stuck to actual books here and not ebooks. Its really got me thinking about the books I really like. Not to mention the convenience of ebooks. I like have the complete works Poe and Dickens in my pocket!

1. The Collected Storie of Arthur C. Clark
2. Edgar Allen Poe Collected Works...Sadly I would need to replace my book as its just falling apart. Can't bear to part with it.
3. History of the World by Roberts
4. Tale of Two Cities by Dickens
5. Isaac Asimov The Complete Stories vol 1

If hypothetical collections are allowed as well:

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare
Civilisation by Kenneth Clarke
The Complete Works of Charles Dickens
The Complete Works of Franz Kafka
The Complete Works of Junchiro Tanizaki

Complete Works of Edgar Allen Poe (as if being on a desert island is not scary enough)
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon (cause I love baseball, and the Red Sox)
Best Woman's Erotica for 2012 (cause those nights are long)
Complete Book of Finishing Techniques (but it would be unfair not to have yarn, as well)
The Collected Novels of Jose Saramago

So be liberal about it. Interpret the thread title as 5 factorial, or 120 books.

ah, I'm tired of such lists, not even mantaining anymore any progress. I'm still reading a lot. A lot like I never was before my mobile device allowed me entering a library at any time, any place...

My list would have to include Gone with the Wind, The Once and Future King, and The Magic of Shirley Jackson. But I can't decide on the last two.
