Sadly, I missed that one. If I had had the discretionary funds at the time, I would have gotten a new one at that price. I still *might* get the refurb. 'Zon has very good refurbs.

I love my DX, I agree if it had WiFi and the full K3 ui, it would be just about perfect.
One nice thing, if I send a personal document book to my Kindle Touch, copy that book to my desktop, then copy it to the DX through USB, it will synch that book on both devices perfectly. WiFi would save me that step, but at least I can read a book on all my Kindles and keep them in synch. If I am sitting outside in the backyard, the DX is the best for me. |

I mainly used my DX for A4 sized PDFs from work. (Similar to US letter format.) I usually have to read several hundred new pages per week, and the DX was a far better option than reading on the laptop or printing it all out.
Since I bought an iPad, however, almost all my PDF reading is done on that. It's easier to keep in sync (Goodreader with Dropbox sync folder vs. manual copy via USB), has better search capabilities and is faster if you just want to quickly scan the pages instead of reading them in depth. The DX has superior battery life, of course, but charging the iPad overnight works perfectly well, so it doesn't make much of a difference in practice. I definitely do prefer e-Ink for personal reading (novels, etc.), but in a smaller form factor, so I usually use my Kindle 3 for that – although my girlfriend is starting to hog it a lot these days, so I might need to drag out the DX again after all. ;-) |

Anyway, I love my Kindle DX. The Kindle 4 is for everydays news and information but for "serious books" with pictures there is no way around the DX (except perhaps the JetBook Color). |

Maybe fragility? Old School resistance to change? (ha! it's funny cuz we're talking about school!) Maybe not ENOUGH of the textbooks available at the time to make it desirable (why buy a reader and STILL have to deal with a pack of heavy books, too?)? |

I think text books are going to work better on tablets then e-ink screens. Anything requiring charts, diagrams, and the like tend to work better in color then black and white. It is also the only area that I can see wanting some interactive features in a book.
If Amazon puts out a 10 inch Fire, I can see it being a player in the text book market. |
