Crichton does a swell infodump. Most of his don't bother me as much as from other authors, even while I'm wanting him to spread it out a bit more.
I can see why his books make good movie source material. They feel cinematic. I was impressed by how well The 13th Warrior movie captured The Eaters of the Dead. Usually movie versions go horribly off the rails. |

"State of Fear" was much better researched and documented than the vast majority of blantantly false science behind the man-made global warming movement. Follow the money: The National Science Foundation thought we were entering a new ice age in the 1970s when they could get funding for their research and now that global warming is the source of their meal tickets, they've changed their tune. |

Liked Andromeda Strain (and the first movie)
Loved Jurassic Park (and all the movies). Liked Timeline (and hated the movie.) Liked Disclosure a little (and like the movie a little, too.) The only novel I've read and didn't like was Airframe, so maybe I should stop while I'm ahead. ApK |

Congo and Sphere were low points for me (scratch the 80's, lol). Disclosure and State of Fear were so-so. I enjoyed all his others (have not read Next or Pirate Latitudes).

i remember when Newsweek magazine in i think 1975 ran a lead article on the "dangerous cooling of the earth." famine and other global catastrophe was inevitable. really scary stuff. remarkable how in 25 years they turned things around but overshot to too hot. might be a good subject for another MC book if he were still alive. |
