Very tempted to clean out my wish list at FW, but the last half dozen Multiformat books I've bought have been missing all section breaks which is a pet peeve of mine. Thankfully the publisher was nice enough to send me correct copies, because FW support was completely unresponsive. The pub said FW has been removing the section breaks for some reason (these ones should have been "*****").

FW has had decreasing customer support at all levels for a while now. There's no longer about how authors can be listed there--the author information has been "being updated" for about a year. The publisher info is still around, but buried; I had to Google to find it instead of any visible site links. (They're on the wholesale model: 50% of sale price or 25% of list, whichever is greater. Authors getting royalties from publishers based on net sales at FW are getting tiny fragments.)

Thanks - haven't come across Mr Watt-Evans before! I used the coupon and most of what remained of my Micropay credit to get 15 of his books for $42 (but no cost to me

Looking at the series order at "Fantastic Fiction" I notice that there are two books in the "Ethshar" series, "Night of Madness", and "Ithanalin's Restoration", which FW don't sell. Do you think the omission of these (they are #7 and #8 in the series, respectively) will affect the enjoyment of the series? FW sell 1-6 and 9-10 in the series.

Just had a curious thing happen. One of the LWE books I've bought from FW is a multi-format book called "The Lords of Silence". I downloaded this in Mobi format and I got a 55k file which, when opened, contained only the cover image and a half-page biography of the author. Downloaded again in ePub, and I got the whole book, which Calibre happily converted to Mobi.

Obviously a glitch in FW's systems somewhere. I've raised a support ticket to notify them of the problem.

Indeed. I'd picked up what I had thought were the first 7 during a previous sale (actually first 6 plus #9 - 7 and 8 seem to be unavailable). Some better that others, but overall a fun read.

According to the author, both books are out of print and only available on the used book market. Tor holds the copyrights and shows no interest in producing ebooks, but the author is trying to retrieve the ebook rights for both.

Night of Madness is moderately important to some of the later stories (The Vondish Ambassador and The Unwelcome Warlock), in that it describes the origin of Warlocks - a new kind of magician. But skipping it won't detract much from the later novels. Ithanalin's Restoration is pretty much stand-alone.

The author has an Ethshar web site

The two missing ebooks were originally published by Tor, who still have the ebook rights, but don't seem to be interested in producing ebook versions (they dropped the series after Ithanalin's Restoration).

Thanks. If I enjoy the others, I'll buy them 2nd hand. Lots of "1p" 2nd hand copies on Amazon.

I've hit that problem before. (And notified them.) The cover & front matter and the rest of the content split between the Kindle .mobi file and the Mobipocket .prc file. (I don't remember which had what.) I sent them a note about it over a year ago.

I complained to FictionWise yesterday about the missing issues and today they are there! Just bought the June issue of Analog using the 35% discount code listed above. I am a happy bunny!

It's par for the course with Fictionwise these days. They're nothing like they were when the Pendergrast's owned it.
