Hmm, movie tickets, transportation, a beverage and a babysitter; maybe ~20 times?

By judicious use of the Boxing Day sales, and 2TB drives at $60 a pop, it actually wasn't that bad at all. Plus the NAS automatically backs up everything every night (including the Calibre library) and any computer or TV in the house can access whatever they want whenever they want. Not a bad tradeoff to my mind.

not much. We watch more TV than go to overrated re-pops of classic movies.

I built the HTPC myself. I got the surround sound system at a sale for more than 70% off and the TV was our gift to ourselves after raising five children.

Oh absolutely.

I rip all our DVD's to a 2Tb NAS hard drive for easy accessibility.

Our youngest daughter Kelly often watches her favourite TV shows on her MacBook streamed directly from that said same NAS.

We get digital and I am nearly 50. AFACT does not.

The Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft (AFACT) said the decision showed "failure of copyright law to keep pace with the online environment" and pointed to a need for stronger copyright laws.
That should read;

"The failure of the entertainment and music industry to keep pace with the online environment"

I think the BPH's need to be included as well

There really is no limit to their bone-headedness is there? You could whack their skulls with a 7lb sledge and it still wouldn't get through.

I blame it on the Danes myself. I think a relative of King Canute must have hitched a ride on a longboat and colonized Hollywood some time in the 11th century. Probably accounts for all those ditzy blondes in Hollywood.

Canute may have been misremembered by history.
One story would have it that he was demonstrating to his ministers that his powers were not unlimited, because he couldn't command the waters not to rise.

Now if we could only get some of these idiots to serve some jail time for the false accusations, it would send a wonderful message to the MPAA and RIAA etc...

So that's this week's Tourist Office drive for the delights of Oz cinema for visitors .... can't wait for the restuarant reviews....

You are, of course, correct. That'll teach me to post without thinking. And I don't even have the excuse of being blonde!

OK then. It was one of his ministers who hitched a longboat ride, and he probably was blonde!

Not Oz. But in the interests of not being strung out and spreadeagled to die in the sun (hah!, fat chance) by the applicable Tourist Board, I respectfully decline to identify the cinema delights in question.

My wife and I go the movies quite regularly, but then we can afford it. We like audience participation. We like the excitement from the kids at a cartoon matinee, and there is no way I would have missed the hilarious moment when Bella first saw Edward and all the teenage girls in the audience went, "OOOOOOOOO!"
That said, the people are are in charge of content are just plain crazy, or else stupid or else too old to understand what the hell is happening in the world. ABC puts the latest released up fairly fast, but if I want to see an FX or AMC or SyFy that I missed, I have to get the torrent. That is so stupid. Even the Japanese anime people have made deals with Crunchyroll and Hulu. Here is a quote from Stan Morris. "The farther you go up in an organization, the more computer illiteracy you find." And that includes the tech companies.
I will note that at the Honda Golf Classic, CBS had the main coverage while Golf Channel had coverage at the bear claw, holes 15, 16, and 17. This was a great idea and it should be picked up by other media. The content people need to understand that people are using more than one screen and that all content needs to be available all the time, in every form of media. It's commercials you are trying to sell dummies, not schedules.
