@Doitsu:
>> At least one Urban Dictionary contributor thinks otherwise

Urban Dictionary explains an english word (or sort of abbrevation, tech-jargon), not the German "abends"

@Perkin, HarryT: That's korrekt

@JSWolf: We're just waiting for the reply of the OP....

You may want to re-read the Urban Dictionary defintion. It does contain an unsubstantiated reference to the German noun Abend from which the adverb abends is derived.

Sigil tends to crash if the ePub is structurally invalid and/or if you edit very large .html files with it. And since you mentioned that you use the spell checker, it might also be caused by the spell checker, which was only recently added to Sigil.

For the record

Running W7/5.3

I have had several crashes but ALL have been while starting a F&R operation. It appears to be connected to very long regex search strings, but I can't be sure.

to all the respondents for making my day, a trivia education and giving me a barrel of laughs along the way!!

To answer several items that were "lost in the noise":

Yes I cut my teeth on IBM mainframes with an unbelievable 1meg of ram!! oh and punched cards no less. Oh and let's not forget the Apple IIe.

W7 64bit Sigil version 5.3

The number of changes can vary before the Sigil crashes and usually just when using the mouse to position the cursor. HOWEVER, I noticed last night that Calibre is also doing the same thing. I was adding a number of new books to the library when it abened (oops there is that word again) crashed without any reason. So I am thinking that the cause is somewhere else.

If I missed anything let me know.

Check your HD for errors.
Look at the 'event viewer' logs

I would also suggest running Memtest86+ (overnight or at least 1 complete pass)

To be serious, this seams to be an unusual behaviour for both, sigil and callibre.

There are some S/R-issues left in the latest sigil-version. Better do not start S/R ("all Files" on) from css, content.opf or bookview. But this doesn't explain, why calibre crashes as well....

AFAIK, both Sigil and Calibre and several other Linux programs ported to Windows use the Qt framework. Therefore I couldn't hurt to uninstall both programs, clean the registry and then re-install the latest versions of both programs. (Make sure to make a backup of the Calibre library and any other files that might be deleted during uninstall. )

When uninstalling calibre, the library is left in position. But it's nice to have a backup anyway

I can make Sigil not work properly or crash. But that's when I'm running certain software along with Sigil.
