Hi pphilipp,
I haven't got my iPad 3 yet ![]() Still playing around with my library plus I don't think they are available (in stock) yet? I keep checking Dick Smith but get "Out of stock". Anyway, lots of work "Adding Books" to my LIBRARY. ![]() But, judging by the info from various kind suggestions, looks like epub is the way to go. Thanks to all the reponders ![]() Their honest opinions was what I was seeking, thanks ![]() |

ePub is the way to go on the iPad. But please use Bluefire Reader and not iBooks.

Bluefire is free.
Here is a wiki article you can check out: Comparison of iOS e-book reader software You might want to download a few of the free apps to see which one works best for you. That's what I did. Last edited by frozennorth; 04-14-2012 at 04:12 PM. |

I only use Bluefire for recipe books, biographies and text books. I did try using it as my main reader but didn't like the way it won't sort the books alphabetically by the author when I select Author sort, nor do I like the way the sort defaults to Recent when you start the app.
My biggest issue was that I couldn't keep all of my books in Bluefire (1500+). The app started crashing when I had around 350-400 books loaded. Not sure if the memory issue was ever resolved. I also use Megareader for the majority of my books. |

Until megareader supports display styles like bold and italic, there is no way I will pay for it. Especially since there are quite a few decent free reading apps out there.

Yes, there are plenty of free reading apps out there. I've certainly tried a lot of them, but they are all redundant to me if they don't offer the features I want. The minimal amount spent for Megareader was well worth it to get additional features that iBooks, Bluefire, iFlow, eBookMobi, Blio, i2reader etc just don't have available. Additionally, some of those free reading apps haven't had updates for a while and I'm not interested in using an app that may break due to a lack of updates when there have been o/s updates. The number and variety of reading apps available just illustrates the various preferences that people have.

And even with that many options for iOS, I've yet to find a good alternative for Stanza. I've paid for MegaReader but I can't stand using it due to lack of formatting support. The options for Android are much better.

![]() Thank you all for your opinions, they are exactly what I was after. Out of principle I wouldn't pay for a reader when excellent ones are available for free ![]() ![]() |

For those who are/were interested, I eventually got my iPad 3
![]() 64Gb Black WiFi All in all I am pleased with it ![]() I don't like the "restrictedness" of IOS but not enough to jailbreak it ![]() I have ordered a Seagate Satellite 500Gb WFi drive AND a 16Gb Wi-Drive (AUD$21.90, LONG story with store credits etc) ![]() So my New iPad should have about 600Gb ![]() |
