Daily random rebooting (K3/3G) - Page 2

Yes last night I put Calendar and Sticky Notes back on. *sigh*. I will try removing one and leaving the other and see if that helps.

Well this Kindle has restarted 2x today. There is no active content and Sync is turned off. The first time, I was reading, and I believe the wifi is off. The second time happened while it was in sleep mode. Wifi is off. I woke it up and Archived Items is (0) so it must have restarted. I did add 2 books from the personal document archive today, as well as a news feed from Calibre.

Since your other Kindle had the same problem with rebooting, I'm wondering if you may have a lot of static electricity in your house, perhaps due to carpeting or dry air from indoor heating or low humidity. This Kindle isn't in an Amazon cover, correct?

It is not in an Amazon cover, correct. (My other K3 wifi IS in the lighted cover....don't use it all that much, but my daughter used it to read a book recently and it hasn't rebooted on her). We don't have central heat or carpets on the ground floor. The winter has been so mild, it hasn't gotten dry or staticky.

Yes, the Archive at Amazon. It makes absolutely no difference how many items you have on the Kindle itself (or even that they are bloating it up with five files per book). A K3 that has been stripped of all books will do the same (I have two, personally, so clean one off now and then, plus four others on the account - they all have this problem of rebooting if wifi is on; it occurs at the very end of the sync, which I suspect is when it updates it's archive listing).

I've given up on collections, too, and just use tags in Calibre.

And, btw, I have all my Kindles set to for No Sync - that is just bookmarks, doesn't control it trying to build a list of what is in your archive....

Never mind, I tested and it worked. How odd that such a simple thing could have solved my rebooting problem. The thing that convinces me this could solve the problem is, last night I turned my other KK on to d/l a book, then turned wifi off. Not much later, my daughter was reading on it, and it went into spontaneous reboot.

I have over 4000 amazon books plus hundreds of personal documents in my archives.

You have over the magic number. Welcome to keeping your wifi off except when needed...

Harry - just having active content present makes no difference to a Kindle. It's just a file extension on another file in the directory, unless it is running.

I have a Kindle Keyboard 3G and about 4,800 books archived at Amazon. There are only a few books and active content on the Kindle. I sync via 3G every day to check special offers, and the device has spontaneously rebooted only one time in 1-1/2 years (two devices over that period of time).

There's a thread today at the Amazon Kindle forum where a person who has 9000

in their Archive has contacted Amazon and they've gotten back with them saying they have replicated the issue and trying to figure out a solution for the issue. So there may be hope yet before I hit the 3000 archive mark!

It would be nice if they could address, and fix, the issue. My replacement still does it. I am just not going to worry about it. I put my calendar and sticky not content back on and have around 300 books on it. I have sync turned off on the web site, but I do turn wifi on daily to get my news and blogs. Just have to remind myself not to put too many books on it.

I have the thread tracked so will let you know if any more news. I am getting close to the 3000 mark so I'm hoping soon they will have a solution.

What is maddening is that the bug was there when the K3 was released, fixed in the first, quickly released update, then came back on the last update.

I want to try something. De-register a Kindle, create a new Amazon account, and register the Kindle to it. Have my blogs and news and stuff sent to that one. Keep the archives on the original account available to my other Kindle. Could this take care of the issue? Will I lose my personal documents and collections that are already set up on the Kindle?

Opinions? Advice?

I'm not sure I followed that, but if you are wondering about what happens to content on a Kindle when you de-register it and register it to another account, if it's an e-ink Kindle it will keep all the content as is, if it's the Fire it will lose all the content.

Thanks. I am giving it a try. I've set up a new account, deregistered the Kindle, registered it to the new account. Now testing the new kindle email address. I'll be sure to update if this solves the daily reboot.
