Hi Derek,

Just visited the store site. I have some questions.

1. I am a Canadian. Will I be able to buy from NAEB?
2. I noticed the shipping option is USPS and UPS. I prefer USPS. Is that possible for shipment to Canada (Toronto).

1. Yes.
2. Yes.

Explanation... We're still working the payment system kinks out as not having a merchant banking account which could be tied to the Paypal system hampered this process. Oops! We *are* sorry and we're working on getting the problems resolved.

Derek,

I noticed today that the store status is Open! So can we buy yet?

Yep. Some of the stuff is a bit flaky, but the credit card processing - choose the Paypal option in our cart - works. And, for now, how about selecting USPS, not UPS... We've still got to get that link tied in.

Yes, use the Paypal option. You'll be directed along the way to the Paypal site, but at that page where you sign into Paypal, don't (unless you'd rather use Paypal). Instead, look on the left column just above the row of credit card icons for the link-highlighted word 'continue'. That will take you through paying by credit card without being a Paypal account member.

Perfect.
First I received my PayPal receipt from PayPal.
Then I received my paid invoice from NAEB.
Later I received an order update from NAEB.

Looks like it's working.

Derek:

I placed my order (#18). On the Baen's Bar thread you mentioned doing a mass email informing those who signed up at NAEBLLC that they could now order. I completed that signup several months ago and have not received an email (though I don't need it now). My point is that if you have transmitted that email and I did not receive it, others may also not be receiving the "store open" notification due to some problem with the Internet. (I checked to ensure that my spam filter was turned off to avoid any such problem).

Robert, thank you for posting. Nope, you're gonna get the email tomorrow. It would have been today, but I'm doing the mailing from my personal computer. Yes, having one corporate officer in Washington (the state, not D.C.), one in Rochester, New York, one in the Bronx, New York and one (little old me) in California, means not having a nice glittery chrome and glass corporate office building. (Maybe some day... Sigh.) So, what we CAN do with our personal equipment, we do. I've got all the names and email addresses extracted, but I'm having a bit of a problem figuring out how to use the tiny, personal email server to work with the tables and Outlook Express. (The company's site swears it will, but I've never had to deal with setting up a personal email server before - and my personal email account with my local ISP isn't really set up for mass mailings... Oh joy!)

And I'm tired and about to go to bed, so I don't think I'll bother to delete your info from the list. Please just ignore it when it arrives tomorrow.

I recommend that you leave my email address on the list, that way I can provide feedback if I don't receive it. (I understand about the issues of doing a mass mailing from an individual computer and ISP account. Many ISPs are set up to restrict anyone attempting to operate an Internet business that includes much email volume - unless you want to pay a hefty price for a business account. Thus, you may find that you need to dribble out the emails in very small batches - or face the possibility of being blocked).

If you need better hosting than iPower Web, just let me know (send me a PM). Like most corporations, they're a pain to deal with.

As for emails being marked as spam... It's a number of things. Most importantly, you should setup spf and txt records for your domain. That'll usually solve the problem for 80% of the users. The second most crucial thing is the IP address that the mail server is using. If the IP was used to spam someone in the past, it might be on a number of blacklists and it might be hard to remove it. Certain companies don't care wether they've been blacklisted or not (None of my IPs are blacklisted, yay!).

I don't. If a client sends out legitimate emails, I'll contact him/her to make sure that it's not a compromised script. But sending emails generally don't take much server resources.

Although, I'm sure that this is what all the bigger and cheap hosting companies do.

Drat. Paypal is being a butt and check/money order are the only options I was given to pay. Now I have to scrounge an envelope, a stamp, ... an ink pen ....

It's a good thing the orders won't ship until next month anyway. If a snail-mail payment was the only thing between me and a reader, I'd lose my mind.

There may be problems with the per-purchase limit on your debit card - if that's what you're using, it's happened to a friend of mine - or it could be the more serious problem that Paypal has slapped a Transaction Freeze on our account until we can prove we've shipped. Never mind that everyone who's ordering from us is well aware we're accepting payments and then placing the (will be delayed by Bookeen) order with Bookeen. Paypal is demanding proof of shipment before they'll let us take any more payments. And we can't touch the money we've already collected - but they've damn well collected their 'handling fees' from that money!!! And we're not the only new and small business with this problem. Here's a link to a case in court over the issue:

http://www.theultimatehit.com/Paypal...ffMemoLaw.html

So until we get this straightened out, keep holding your breath!
