I did it right after the Fire came out. Now I can't remember the name of the program. If I do remember something I'll let you know.
I know folks use "Kindle Water" but it's not what I used. Last edited by osnova; 03-13-2012 at 02:02 PM. |

Pardon my ignorance, but what's your point? Does the slow uptake of ICS have anything to do with the fact that it is supposed to unify phones and tablets? If you are disagreeing with my post, feel free to counter it with some evidence.

I expected to want to do some heavy modifications on my Fire, but I ended up liking it a lot as-is.
The one thing I did want to root for was to be able to install the Android Market. I subsequently realized that rooting would let me install the Google Calendar sync adapter and let the google calendar app (and pocket informant) sync with my google calendar. I've installed a couple other root-necessary apps, like droidwall and titanium backup, but I don't really consider them all that essential right now. One downside of relying on root is that of course the next Amazon update will un-root you and you'll have to re-do it. Every time this has happened the smart people have figured out how to re-root in fairly short order, but there still is that need for the sure way to block future updates (this is why I grabbed droidwall, but it would be nice to know for sure what needed to be blocked). |

For me the hardest part was getting the USB driver for adb working since I had already plugged my Fire in and used it as a USB drive. So I had to figure out how to get it to switch over to the correct driver. It's actually easier under linux. |

The one app that made it worth it for me is Goldendict Now I have an advanced dictionary app.

No. The slow uptake is the point. Not that it wasn't supposed to unify tablet & phoe OSes.
