The more I'm hearing about intermittent loss, the more I think you should be asking for help in one of the calibre sub-forums. There's a better chance that one of the calibre technical guru's will see it over there. If this was a common problem I would have expected to see many similar posts about 'disappearing' plugboards.
I can't reproduce the error and as most of my readers are Sonys I can't replicate switching between Sony, Kindle, Kobo, Nook etc. I can switch between Sony and PocketBook, but that hasn't caused a problem to-date. What I'm finding hard to understand is that if you have added both PRST1 plugboards, the main 'device_db' one and the backup 'epub' one, then the latter should physically force the plugboard data into each epub as it is sent-to-device or saved-to-disk. It's hard to see how a calibre connect/disconnect cycle could physically remove it. If it did and you had hundreds of epubs on the T1, every connect/disconnect cycle would take ages. For the more technically comfortable, from what I see (rather than what I know), if you unzip one of your epubs on the T1 (not in the calibre library) and view the contents of the .opf file in a simple text editor, the 'epub' plugboard data seems to be contained in the <dc:creator> line in the <metadata> section, e.g. see red bit Code:
<dc:creator opf:role="aut" opf:file-as="Christie, Agatha">Christie, Agatha - Poirot 15</dc:creator>

I doubt that connecting the kindle had anything to do with the intermittent error. I was using a plugboard for the kindle which may have caused something although I don't see how. but deleting the kindle plugboard seemed to help.
Twice when it happened I had deleted all books and resent them for an unrelated reason. Both times it did not modify the epub metadata on many of the books. It might have on some on some of them as some did have series info. Unfortunately I didn't check these. Both times I sent the same books to my 350 and 600 and they seemed to be fine. but then the device_db plugboard has always been enough for them. Recently out of curiousity, I sent as many books to my T1 as would fit. Wanted to see if it would choke. Then I added the books from the T1 to a new library and checked enough to be sure that the plugboard was working. It was. I think the plugboard(s) are fine, just that occasionally I manage to to mess things up despite not having changed the plugboard for close to a year. Helen |

Yes, I can agree with that. Everything works flawlessly on the earlier Sony models. Only the 'device_db' plugboard is needed for those.

I have a PRS-T1 and did jackie_w's Calibre tweaks to get the series numbering, thanks by the way, it's very nice. I also see some problems occasionally where the series numbering display disappears from the title. It's usually when I add new books to the device. After the device goes through it's "refresh" or whatever it's doing (rotating arrows in top bar) then the series numbering disappears from the series author line. The fix is to reconnect it to the computer and restart calibre and let it update the metadata then eject.
