Actually, that's something of an urban myth. Apple products are not overpriced when compared to similar products from other manufacturers. By "similar" of course I mean similar spec, components etc. If you then factor in the (subjective) added value of the software that ships with Apple computers then actually you have a pretty sweet deal.

Anyway. Let's be clear that what we're talking about here is a standard iPod with additional e-book reader software - officially sanctioned. And that means e-books available from the iTunes Music Store, which is a very significant move if you ask me.

We're not talking about a dedicated Apple e-book reader (sadly) nor are we talking e-ink displays. Though with all the talk of the iTablet/ultra-lite Macbook Pro coming in January, let's look back at the prototype ultra-thin 'Metro' laptop which Intel touted back in May - it had an e-ink display built into the laptop lid!

Wouldn't that be sweet??

I've just been to the Hidustan website and it seems this article is a little out of date, August 2006. Not holding my breath!

Once you're on 1.1.1, you just need to run octoprep (or run bosstools), upgrade to 1.1.2 and then run the 1.1.2 jailbreak app. It's a fairly smooth upgrade on the iTouch, the only downside seems to be that you have to reinstall all your apps.

The last line of the article in the Hindustan times is:

The US corporation is also developing an Apple iPhone, which will bring together the iPod and mobile phone into a single stylish handset.

This article is very old and unreliable, Macworld got it from Booktrade. Booktrade seem to have some researchers that have a habit of reporting old news as new when there is nothing else.

Ah well... thanks for the heads up...

Blame Macworld, not me!

Still... I'd love it to happen.

There used to be a time when the only form of media was the newspaper.
Now I want daily news on technology. News from all over the world from different
publication by logging in to one single site.

you have to agree, the multi-touch interface is a joy to use.
I only played with it for about an hour in total (a few consecutive trips to drool over the iPhone and the iPod Touch), but it felt natural. Seems that they really did invest a lot of energy in it's development, and "wasting" it just for an iPod or a phone seems like a bit of a waste to me. I can immagine Apple doing something bigger and better with it.

Multi-touch iMacs maybe ?

The multi-touch interface was made for reading e-books! It's destiny. A multi-touch e-ink display... if only!
