Thanks tshering for that CSS secret to rotate the page to landscape mode.
I worked out the css page style needs to be edit for every book upload.

But then if using the kobo_extended plugin in calibre a css file can be placed on the ereader that the plugin will look for and use when putting epubs on that reader, so only the epubs going to that particular reader are changed, and there is no nead to change all of them in the main library on your computer.

Back later with results.

Cheers NH

No offense intended to anyone, but isn't this just the sort of feature that could EASILY be implemented in the settings or better yet on the Font popup dialog so that the user could EASILY select the desired vertical or horizontal layout? Obviously the engine has the ability to display the text either way. Why should we even need to ask for such obvious User based features... This is the sort of stuff that drives me nuts with Kobo. It's the lack of attention to detail, while obviously spending a lot of time to rebuild a home page that a lot of people liked better with the carousel. At least the images were large enough that you could EASILY determine what book it was on the central portion of the carousel.

From a practical standpoint I realize you can't catch everything, or spend a lot of time on it, but come on, this sort of thing should be a near no-brainer.

Yes please, allow choice of landscape mode, especially on the Kobo Mini.
The carousel home page would be more useful than the current tile home page too.

Which is the better after-market reader of these two [Koreader or Coolreader]. It would be nice to use the wasted space at the top and bottom of the screen where the page numbers go, once again especially on the Mini which is short on screen space to begin with.

Thanks for your replies, cheers NH

There is a description of how to load a custom CSS on kepub opening. With some bash scripts (that you can start for instance with the help of kobo launcher) you can choose between different css files before opening a book. This gives you some flexibility

Whereas it seems to me that implementing a landscape/portrait mode should have been possible for the developers without much effort at a certain point, cf. e.g. this experiment (last two images), more recent FWs seem to go another direction.

What boggles my mind is that they seem totally clueless regarding how such a rotation at the device level would benefit anyone requiring larger format text sizes since the whole interface could be enlarged. I'll probably put it down to youthful developers and a lack of need for such an advantage, but they need to start looking past the noses on their faces or they are going to blow the whole thing when someone trumps them on features.

I bought my Kobo Touch because of the advanced features like multiple fonts and weight variability and being able to add my own fonts. Again, I bought my Glo because Kobo got the front lighting right and continued offering features. If Kobo doesn't stop fixing things that aren't broken, start concentrating on features that are as obvious as the nose on your face to anyone actually using the product, and continue innovating new features like Pocket support I feel they will fall by the wayside. If I were part of their management team I'd do everything I could to ensure that they eat, sleep, and live with the device they are developing to encourage them to discover features that would be helpful to everyone. Whiteboards, BS sessions(production development meetings), etc. are great, but they will never trump one or more passionate people who actually use the product in real life and gather insight to better development.
