I am a college student. My combination is long-life battery cheap Nokia phone for calling and iPod touch 4 for Offline wikipedia, calendar, reminders, alarms, audiobooks, music and much similar things. I love it.

Google voice isnt available everywhere. iMessage is. If we want to talk cross platform, Viber and Whatsapp are better and they are available everywhere also, but they require phones. I was simply pointing out that iMessage can be used on the iPod Touch as well as the iPhone and no phone number is required. Only an apple ID. I wasn't saying its better or worse than anything else.

I am quite certain there are some folks that have andriod devices that would entertain a look into ios ecosystem. The Touch is the most affordable and while more negative reasons than positives because of owning a 4g smartphone already, perhaps some may have taken the plunge regardless. There aren't enough replies from folks who did and why.
Since the negatives outweigh the positives, convincing isn't easily done to begin with BUT not impossible! ![]() Last edited by robertc88; 03-01-2012 at 07:41 PM. |

Too much duplication with what I'd use the Touch for versus my smartphone except IOS and I'd have to agree that isn't a compelling enough reason, if there are really any for those having a nice smartphone. I really like the ppi for the display on the Touch but the screen isn't large enough for me personally especially for browsing. But since I feel the display is small, jailbreaking does give access to games on one's HDTV with the connection cable (or Apple TV) so that is something I thought about as well. And I'm sure there are some good games on IOS which aren't available yet on Android. Video playback without jailbreak would be a nice to have feature as well and I'd probably use from time to time. So you see I've done homework! ![]() Last edited by robertc88; 03-02-2012 at 10:43 AM. |

As I mentioned earlier, for me, the deciding factor was battery life (or lack thereof on my smartphone). When I use my smartphone during the day, it's already drained by night time (or if not, will become drained next morning) so I'm left with nothing to use. Since I normally do most of my reading at night just before going to bed, I decided to get an iPod Touch so I have something to read on (specifically, on Stanza) while charging my phone. For me, that was a compelling enough reason to spend money on an iPod Touch. On an Apple forum, you'll find plenty of fanboys who think any iOS device is the best thing since sliced bread. ![]() |

Maybe it is just my iPod Touch, but ever since iOS 5 it has become somewhat unstable. Nearly every day one or more apps crash, and the battery seems to drain more rapidly. Full restart does nothing to fix this, I've turned off all the iCloud stuff. It's not so bad as to be more than annoying, but it is annoying.

I suggest going with a Cowon music player since you have other smartphones. Cowon has very nice sound, That's part of their signature. |

The sound quality was a big shock to me when I went from my Zune (which I still use for extended sessions) to an iphone. The Zune sounds quite good, and there's a noticable difference in sound quality even with the same MP3s and headphones when I go to the iphone.

Hi, I recently upgraded from an 8Gb Touch to a 64Gb model.
My main reason was space for all my music...but I love reading on the Touch, especially in bed as it is a lot lighter than my Blackberry Playbook. Stanza is the ereader I like the best - it has great customization - but I also have iBooks, Kindle and Kobo on there. |

I actually still have an original iPhone 16GB. Back when I still had the 3GS, I used the iPhone 16GB as my backup reader. After I upgraded to an iPhone 4 (with retina display), I just couldn't go back to my older iPhone's pixelated display, hence, the iPod Touch purchase. And yes, even the 8GB model is plenty if you only want it for ebooks. I barely use 1GB on mine. |
