Hi Multiprose,
I had already performed the procedure exactly as per your description above, but it unfortunately did not fix the shut-down problem. I have however noticed that my battery is no longer discharging at an alarming rate. Thanks, Glen |

I'd really love to see the error logs of the device...
If you have adb installed, they can be obtained via adb logcat. If not, in terminal emulator type "logcat > /mnt/sdcard/logs.txt" This will dump them to the reader drive. And there is an app: https://market.android.com/details?id=org.jtb.alogcat http://code.google.com/p/alogcat/downloads/list Battery drain can be caused by several things 1.) Flashing / sd recovering the reader when battery is not fully charged is a common mistake. It will take the actual charge as being 100%. 2.) Apps preventing the device from sleeping by causing so-called "(partial) wake locks". These can be identified with this app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1179809 https://market.android.com/details?i...erystats&hl=de |

Hi Uboot,
I would love to be able to show you the error logs, but as far as I know have no way to access without the device being rooted again. I am unable to re-root, as it hangs at "opening book". I have spent many hours fiddling with this darn thing, getting more and more frustrated, and no matter what I do I am not able to reroot and get past "opening book". Now I am right back to basics (again!) after performing another SD rescue and also a hard reset. The trouble is still that it will not shut down without hitting the reset button, (amazingly, I am now at the stage where I can almost live with that!) and the even bigger problem of having the battery go from full to empty in just a few hours of sleep mode, (wifi off) which I can in no way live with! In fact, I'm close to throwing it out my window! Thanks, Glen |

Please don't update to latest firmware this time
![]() Also be sure to use the latest restore and rooting packages. They seem to get updated from time to time... As a next step, please root the device and get us a logcat... |

i'm all out of ideas. you should send it to the sony repair/exchange it if you can. it's prolly a hardware issue you are having.
send it back. if you can't, one last thing you can do but i won't blame you if you are fed up with fiddling with it, is download mini partition home tool and wipe the disk, create a partition format FAT32. pop the card into the reader, use the reader stock homescreen to go to settings and choose to format the memory card and the internal reader partition. try sd-rescue again. |

I want you to know how much I appreciate your concern for my issues. To bring you up to date, my reader appears to have somehow remedied the battery drain problem. And I am currently simply using the reset button to shut off the device when not using for awhile. I am interested in trying your above suggestion to "download mini partition home tool and wipe the disk, create a partition format FAT32". But I'm afraid I would require much more easy-to-understand step by step instructions to accomplish this. I would not know the first thing about where to find a mini partition home tool to download, nor how to go forward from there, without simple yet detailed steps on the "how to's". And just so you are aware of where I am at, I currently have my reader back to just a reader, as I am for some reason unable to re-root, because it hangs every time at "loading book". Although far from adept at this computer geek stuff, I am willing to try anything to fix this thing, prior to having to return/exchange it. I am for the most part bedridden from a permanent spinal injury, and it keeps my mind occupied; gives me something (hopefully) constructive to do, to pass the time. I appreciate very much all that you, and others, have been so helpful with. Thank-you so much! Glen |
