I voted "paperback level".
I'm not paying $20 for books with just text, paper or electronic. Only "coffee table books" and books not suitable for eInk devices could get me to part with that amount of money! On second thought, there actually is ONE book I might consider paying $20 for if it was available in eBook format (don't think it is, will go look after posting this...): Wayne Rainey, His own Story. There is so much in that book that I want to go back to from time to time and the search facility of an eBook would be so helpful! |

I said paperback level. I really wouldn't have much of a problem with ebook prices if a) the prices went down, as a rule, for books that have been out for more than a year or so, and b) they were around paperback level (at this stage in time). Actually, as a rule slightly less than the paperback. A price like that seems fair to me.

Could you add "hell freezes over?"
I don't pay full price for hardcovers, so it isn't happening with e-books. This is especially true given that e-books are not given the same quality of editing and proofing as hardcovers. |

I'm getting less with an ebook. I expect to pay less.

When I first started reading ebooks I was guilty of spending upwards of $17 for a book just because I thought I HAD to have it RIGHT NOW. After looking at what I spent after the first year I realized that it was ridiculous. There is a book out right now that I really want by Philippa Gregory who is my favourite historical fiction author but it's $18.72 at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss...tal-text%2C303
$15.99 at Kobo: http://www.kobobooks.com/ebook/The-L...S_Q/page1.html I won't pay that much anymore. $12 is my max for any one book during the month and I've already reserved that amount for The Dresden Files ![]() |

I seem to be one of the few who picked "yes if it's a release that I've been waiting three months for", although it's usually more like five years...(GRRM & Paolini, I'm looking at you!). I will also gladly pay full price for each and every Dresden Files novel. Aside from the above examples though, I won't buy a book that I can't discount with a Kobo code. |

I'm even thinking this is something I'll want to get the paperback anyway, as my other family members don't have e-readers and having it to share with the family would be good, and they are all interested since they heard me yap so much about the book. |

I voted at paperback level, however I have a couple caveats: PB pricing when only the HBB is out and and just below PB pricing when the PB is out--afterall I am getting less.
Also: second to the formatting, etc. I am realizing I have to learn too much to get things into a quality format (AMEN to the comments on covers, formatting, etc.--I had too many illusions). To get me to pay for a book, I want the quality control of decent editors and "typesetters", just as I am picky in my DTBs picking only the "quality ones". (Thank you to the people here who have generously offered so much of their time, knowledge and finished projects to help someone like me just getting to know the ropes.) |

Non-fiction, sure. I get some value out of that and I'll probably keep the book.
Fiction, absolutely never. |

$10 is my upper limit for ebooks. If it is more than that, I'll wait for the price to come down.

Wanting to read a new release immediately is the only reason I'd pay full hardcover price for an ebook. Luckily, I'm not forced into that situation very often (the ebook is invariably cheaper than the physical book upon release in my neck 'o the woods).
I like bargains... but I perceive no difference in the value of physical books vs ebooks. I didn't re-sell, fondle, sniff, stare longingly at, display, or even gauge the heft of my physical books before I started buying ebooks. I buy words I like to read by authors who string them together in a manner that I find pleasing. |

Another "no, never" for e-books.
If I like the author enough and want to read their book that much to pay a $20+ cost, I will simply buy the hardcover, which is exactly what I do for the handful of authors whose books I already value enough to pre-order in paper versions. I would hypothetically be willing to pay $20+ for a good specialty non-fiction release, but the formatting and accessibility of most non-fiction e-books are ill-suited to representing the subject matter, so that's another "paper book represents better value-for-money at that price" situation. |

I think if I could get the hardcover of a book I really want to read immediately on day of release or at most the day after, I might wait for the ebook to get cheaper.
As it is, BookDepository, which I otherwise love dearly, takes at least 10-14 days to get a book to me, so ebooks have a lot of extra value for me in those rare cases! |
