This email went to my spam folder, but I did get it and saved one book. Thanks for the heads up, I probably wouldn't have even seen it!

I haven't received an email about it. Does this mean that all the books I have listed as kindle editions will disappear? So I should have listed them as paperbacks or hardcovers? This is strange.

The only books on my list were a few self-pubbed Kindle ebooks.

I probably won't check. I'm on dialup and for whatever reason Goodreads is *painfully* slow for me to use. I've got an account and I do have books listed, but most of my activity these days is on LibraryThing.

Another reason I like MR so much--I didn't receive an email from Goodreads, so wouldn't have known about this crazy situation. Thanks to the info posted here, I checked my books. All mine are safe, but there isn't much in there yet as I only started a few months ago.
Thanks to all for the info and help! |

But about your "dialup." I remember being on dialup. 56Kbaud. The web sites today are much larger so that browsing is very much slower as everything has to download. Plus all the video stuff really slows you down. You might try DSL if available as an add on to your phone which is about $20/month or $20 to $25 a month stand alone and just have a cell phone for phone calls which you probably have anyway. Or if you have had a problem with getting DSL in your locale, a lot of locations that didn't have DSL are bringing in AT&T U-Verse. I just upgraded from DSL to U-Verse and am well satisfied. Personally I wouldn't touch cable though it can be the fastest. It is expensive and it is a constant problem dealing with the cable company. If the problem is where you live rather than cost, and you can't get DSL or U-Verse, there is a new satellite service coming out that is better than the old one for internet. Look into that. I've looked into the a couple satellite services. Way too expensive. My only hope is a rural WiFi service that is planning on putting an antenna on a county owned tower just down the road. I've got a clear shot from the corner of my property. Only need to lay about 50 yards of cable. Mostly I just survive with the dialup, ignoring websites that take too long to load and getting into town to a couple local pubs that have open WiFi at a decent speed. Have dinner, drink a couple of beers and update my system and enjoy a little high speed. Don't want to get too spoiled. ![]() |
