Legion by William Peter Blatty.

its not a ghost story per se but theres a sizeable chunk about a doctor investigating electronic voice phenomenon that scared the beejeezus out of me. i'm a pretty seasoned horror fan but i had to put the book down and go take a break.

I'm always up for recommendations of new authors, and horror is my genre of choice.

John Saul is another of my favourite authors. I remember reading Suffer the Children when I was quite young, around 13 I think, and loving it.
Nathaniel by Saul is somewhat of a ghost story.

Also, I second Legion by Blatty. A lesser known book than his smash hit, The Exorcist, but very good nonetheless. I have a hardback copy of it from many moons ago.

Yep--you're right about him being S. King's son.

I read this book and it did a lot of nothing for me.

I only made it about halfway. No build up of tension and I found all of the main characters unsympathetic.

Shoot. Well maybe I'll try a different one then.

Someone mentioned MR James earlier. His story 'The Mezzotint' in Ghost Stories of an Antiquary is one of the creepiest stories I've read. It's excellent!

Finished Heart-Shaped Box today. Here's what I said in the "what am I reading thread." It was good, not that scary but I did enjoy it. I'll check out some of these other recommendations after I finish the books I'm working on at the moment.
