You can create an Apple account without a credit card.
I think you are correct. I just checked some. There seem to be indications that you can (now at least) create an account through the App store and not iTunes without a card number. Also some Apps/Programs were mentioned that would do it or help anyway.

At the time I set an Ipod Touch up for a friend, we didn't know that. I wonder if we can remove that card number without a lot of trouble. Seems like I remember with an earlier Android version (1.x) you had to do a factory reset to remove the account.

I feel like Apple misled me. Bad Apple!

I buy all my music and videos from Apple (except for the occasional cheap DVD at Blockbuster or garage sales). The music is DRM-free and I can get it in whenever I want on all of my devices that I enjoy music on.

I never understood how Apple can be good value for money with profits they are getting? Some of them are clearly hugely overpriced compared to manufacturing costs... Maybe it's just being almost engineer, hardware and cost effectivness is important software is just fluff...

Software is a huge reason people choose Apple products.

I like and hate Apple. They make good products then lock you up and charge huge profit margins

The first Mac, it was said, was to be sold like a toaster. Take it home and plug it in and use it right out the box. Apple stuff is always easy to use and easy to look at. PCs back then were klunky gadgets in comparrison. Blackberries the same compared to the iPhone when it was released.

All the Apple bashing in this thread doesn't change the facts that 30 million people chose their phone and 9.5 million bought an iPad over that last 13 weeks.

When I think of all the times a devout Apple knocker told me that Apple is going broke I have a little chuckle. For those that make a song and dance over the fact they haven't given a cent to Apple, keep up the brave fight. Don't buy on principle and hold your head up high so when people point out that Apple makes the world's biggest profits selling the world's most popular gadgets you can say with strong conviction "I didn't give 'em a cent".

It'll be interesting to see how sustainable that product revenue mix is in the mid- to long-term. There are a lot of high-tech companies that fell into real hard times because of a reliance on a single product line.

Only governments, at the moment, could squander the liquidity that Apple has at present.
