Guys, you can remove the ads by going to your Manage Your Kindle page, clicking on Manage Your Devices on the left column and you should be able to see your Kindle listed.
One of the columns shown is Special Offers and it should show you are "Subscribed" and next to that would be a link that says "Edit". Click that and you'll be able to unsubscribe to the Special Offers and no longer get any ads. You'll have to pay US$40 to unsubscribe for the Touch. I don't how much it is for the Kindle 3. The basic Kindle 4 is $30, iirc. You'll also need a valid US address, if you haven't already. EDIT: Beaten by tubemonkey! |

As I said in my post. This option isn't available to me.
There is no "Special Offers" column. There is no edit button. I suppose this is because my account is registered in a non-us country. If it wasn't for that, I would've already payed them to get rid of the ads. |

Ah sorry. Have you tried changing your address on Amazon to a US one. Maybe that might help?

Yeah. I just assumed just because if one bought a US exclusive Kindle, you would also have a US based Amazon account. My bad.
Being in Malaysia, the Kindle store is unavailable to me and so I just registered a US account and I do not have the same problem as you guys do. To answer tubemonkey's question though, perhaps he had it shipped using a third-party shipping service? Last edited by toadhall; 01-26-2012 at 03:03 PM. |

Not at all - it's a reasonable assumption to make. My Touch was bought by a friend in the US and posted to me, and is registered to my Amazon UK account, so I don't get to option to remove the ads (not that I actually want to - I rather like them!).

They're certainly more interesting than the dead authors of my K3.

As the Touch is my first e-Ink Kindle, I have not had the pleasure of seeing Emily.
That's probably for the better. |

At the time I bought my kindle, the kindle touch was only shipped to the US. I don't know if they already ship outside of the us. So like HarryT I had a friend ship it to me.
The friend also got the kindle to me for less than the price as I would pay for the non-touch shipped from amazon itself. I also don't mind the ads, there like a random screensaver if it would work. The connect to refresh ads page all the time sucks. That's why I'm looking into removing the ads. So did you just use a random address toadhall? |

No, I did not use a random address. I used a friend's US address. You could use your friend's address as well.
I'm also considering paying to remove the ads but at $40 I think I'll wait a bit to see if the situation resolves. The Touch still isn't being shipped outside of US btw. |

It took four days for the ads to start, but now I'm getting Kindle Daily Deals. I set it up Monday, and e ads didn't begin until Thursday afternoon... while I had no wifi. It's nice to have something other than the same picture of Mark Twain all the time.

I have a question. I understand that you can pay $40 to "upgrade" your kindle to one without ads and that's fine. What I don't understand is this: if you purchased some of their books at Special Offer prices, do you have to pay the difference for those books in addition to the $40? That could get complicated.
