In fairness, I would imagine that at least as many people turn pages inadvertently on the K3 by pressing the side buttons as they pick it up. Accidental operation isn't something that's unique to touch screens.

I like the keyboard version. I find the 3G websurfing to be very reassuring (okay I only got lost in a strange city twice--but 3G web got me out of that, and is thus now a friend-for-life.) I like having a whole section I can pick the KK up by that won't turn pages unexpectedly on me. The size seems right to me, and I like being able to read pdfs in landscape.
OTOH I can see that the Touch would make dictionary lookup and highlighting more convenient. But how *do* you select a word and use that for search on the KK? Inquiring minds want to know.. |

QFT -- my wife, who has the K4, just told me she keeps turning back a page accidentally because the back button is right where she like to grip the Kindle.

I have a 1, a 3, two DXs, and two new Touches. Of course the 1 is a more of a museum piece now. My middle daughter inherited the 3, my wife the first DX and my mother-in-law the other DX. My eldest daughter got my 2nd Touch for Christmas.
I still use the DX for reading PDFs and sheet-music, but the Touch is the best for reading books. Both of the touche's are ads option, but we hardly notice the ads. I could not stand the micro-button keyboards on any of the previous models. I missed the page-turn buttons a little at first, even finding myself squeezing the bezel of the touch on a few occasions, but after I adapted to the tap method, I find it takes less attention. If I would change anything about the Touch, it would be to get rid of the power button and move its function to a long press of the home button. Better still, tap short-long for home and tap the home screen short-long for off. Tap off kindle short-long to turn it on. I hate buttons. |

I prefer touch screens so I prefer the Touch over my K3.

I have never done that with the K4. I have accidentally turn the page by hitting the page button. I hold my K4 with one hand, bottom right corner goes into palm and fingers across the back then turn page with my thumb or other hand.

Have both, I Think Touch is more techie, speedier. K3's screen is slightly better, can browse with 3G.
I use Touch more often right now. |

I have a k3 and a Sony 350. I've never really warmed up to touch screens. I went to some difficulty and expense to replace my old ipod (and my kids' ipods) with the Gen 5 version rather than the Gen 6 version, even. None of us like touch interfaces... it's too easy to do something you didn't intend, and then not be sure how to get back.

The chapter jumps were extremely annoying, especially coupled with whisper sync where the jump is your new farthest read spot. |

I find I prefer my K3 over any of the newer, smaller and lighter ereaders. Even though it's heavier than all of the new devices, I still find it easier to hold because of the large space that the keyboard occupies, which allows for various holding positions and better leverage. One-handed page-turning I find is also much easier.

One handed page turning on the KT is very easy. I hold mine with my thumb on the right edge of the bezel. To turn the page I just roll my thumb slightly to the left so it brushes the screen, and the page turns.

On the one hand, I've handled the K4 in store and love the fact it still has page turn buttons. That, and it's MUCH smaller than the K3 due to the lack of keyboard, which makes it easier to hold and use. On the other hand, I don't like the idea of having 1.25GB of space (IIRC) for all of my books, especially since I like to read the occasional text PDF or comics on my K3.
But I'm also not enamored of the Kindle Touch's exclusive touchscreen operation, and reports of slower menu access compared to the K4 or K3 (it takes a second or two longer to access a menu than the non-touchscreen versions, according to several reviews I've read). I really do like the K4 - just not the space available to the reader. Especially not when the Touch is only $20 more expensive for three times the space... and the American exclusivity. |
