![]() But if you are dealing with 'hundreds' of files, then sorting them all automatically and then having to move the few remaining non chapter files isn't so bad. Multiple selection in the book browser is something I've seen mentioned before. I'd have to look into that more to see if its possible (or if user_none would be ok if it were added). The issue of sorting alphanumerically was actually straightforward and just has to be tested more and cleaned up. |

I don't think sort the book browser is a good idea like Meme said. A lot of books do not follow alphabetical order like below.
main.xhtml chapter1.xhtml chapter2.xhtml index.xhtml a.xhtml b.xhtml and so on... sorting would cause a huge problem for this order. Maybe allow the ability to select more than one file (group of files) in book browser for sorting, moving etc... would be good. Last edited by congngo; 01-12-2012 at 12:52 AM. |

Actually, I said that sorting even without multiple selections is good. Admittedly it isn't as useful as sorting by selection, but its a start. Obviously automatic sorting isn't going to solve every case - the thought is that it might help out in some cases, and since its entirely optional to use it doesn't hurt anything.
I've uploaded a patch to allow sorting all html files by right clicking on the html section and selecting sort. Still have to look into supporting multiple selection. I've also uploaded a patch that inserts the new blank html section to just after the file selected in the book browser, so you don't have to scroll around to find it. Still need to look into doing the same for adding existing files. I wouldn't expect them to be in 0.5 though. |

The intuitive solution is when you right click on a file to add an additional file then it appears just below the file you right clicked on. I think this is the right answer instead of trying to fix it later.

Patches updated to include
- Support sorting entries alphabetically - Allow multiple selection of entries for remove, move, merge, sorting alphabetically - Add new blank files and Add existing files after the currently selected entry instead of at the end For a release after .5 when user_none gets time to review and test them. |

![]() Any examples of how you see this working? Numbers at front, at end, in the middle, what text to use if any, what to do with existing names/numbers? I suppose you might mean you want to rename each file as say Section0001, Section0002, ... deleting whatever name was there before, and possibly appending a letter or aborting if one of the names already exists. Maybe even prompt for the prefix to add to the numbers (which we probably should keep at the end to avoid anything over-fancy), or take the name part from the first entry (but that gets a bit more tricky). Usually when you got a file that has the chapters not seperated, so you just have one big file. I use to give them proper headings and replace all headings with chapterbreaks+headings and split the files by the chapterbreaks. After that I have nearly everything I want, except that the chapter names do not fit anything. In this case I usually rename my epub to zip, extract all chapters, use a Windows utility to rename them to something like Chapter01 to Chapter99, remove the former chapters from the ZIP, put the new ones in instead, rename it back to EPUB, then open it with Sigil and have to repair a lot of errors in the opf file. Would be way easier if I could just do all this within Sigil... |

some name are OMG long, I typically use 3 to 4 chars to describe the file: ded,pro,epi,rave,p01c03 (part 1 chapter 3),copy The ability to select a range , select a prefix and have it number 1 to n If supplying a start number (defaults to 1) would not be too difficult ![]() |

BTW This needs to do the rename process (all uses, like it does now) after each file is renamed. Just in case there is an overlapping name.

I would envision it working something like this: 1-Select a range of files, right click and select rename. 2-Entering "part1_chap\1" would result in: part1_chap1.XXXX part1_chap2.XXXX - - etc The back slash, or whatever character is chosen, indicates the starting number to increment. "part1" is just text and would not be incremented. The file extension would remain unchanged. Thanks for taking an interest in this. Regards - John Last edited by Jabby; 01-16-2012 at 01:07 AM. |

Maybe applying regex for multiple renamings. although I don't think regex works with autoincrement.

Thanks for the comments. Its always nice to know why a feature will be used - to know how Sigil is used since I don't use it as heavily as many of you do, and to help with how to code it.
I guess something a little fancy will be required ![]() Is there any need to have the numbers in the middle of the name - or will they really always be at the end? If at the end as I suspect, then I can just provide a text box for the Starting Name, e.g. (Section0001) and use the number of digits at the end to determine leading 0's. |
