Hi Luke,

as I have a really short battery life for my iliad I have read this thread with delight as it sheds some light on my problem - I have a Iliad Book Edition and according to your step by step How To I have measured the voltage of both batteries, which are 3.99 and 4.18 respectively - this is different, also the Battery with 4.18 V is somewhat inflated, you can push around a bubble of gas in the envelop.

So I would assume that my batteries are also gone. Do you agree?

You write that the batteries cannot be changed, but there are numerous postings in this Thread https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30794 regarding the change and nobody seems to put an emphasis on the V2 and V1 difference as you do here. Please verify that a battery change is not possible for V2 iliad readers.

Best Regards,
FG

Hi FG,

sure, your battery is gone, at least the one inflated. What kind of batteries do you have? If the battery are soldered directly on the board, you have the V1 , If the batteries are connected with a small white connector you have the V2. Because the voltages you got, I suppose you have V2, please confirm it.

About the battery replacement with other bigger: the battery charger is directly controlled by the firmware, and set as capacity limit 1100 mAh. Even you install bigger battery, you cannot be able to fill to max capacity because this software limit. You need to modify the firmware as described in the post you cited.
But caution! Doing so, you can brick your iLiad, and there is no support for restore it!
Is a very risky operation, please consider this…

Battery: I'm going to test some commercial LiPo batteries with version 2 charger, I believe that most 1000mAh batteries are compatible with iLiad.
In the meanwhile, I have some original batteries (V1 and V2 type) to trade.

Luke

Hi Luke,

Its a V2 - the batteries are soldered to a small circuit board (w some IC et al. on it) and connected to the main body with a white 4 pin connector.

But anyway - 1000 or 1100 mAh batteries (both LiPo and Li-Ion) should work?

And how much would you want for a V2 type Battery?

iLiad Batteries

This is the battery pack Version 1
Was used in the iLiad 1st Edition and in the earlier 2nd Edition.
This is the battery pack Version 2
Was used in the Book Editions and in the most recent 2nd Edition.
The two battery pack (not the battery elements!) are equivalent and can be exchanged.
