Better to use "stand-by"

I don't like to do that because it takes too long to start up. I'm too impatient.

Either shutting down the wifi or putting the Vox in Airplane mode extends the battery life quite a bit. Don't forget to apply the latest patch too.

I got a Vox for my daughter last November. So far it seems that I cannot make the battery last longer than just shy of 4 hours when it is used for just reading (and considerably less when the kids are playing games).
- I have WiFi disabled (airplane mode)
- I have all of the software updates
- I have the screen brightness turned down to the minimum
- the Vox is shut down after use (not put to sleep).

When I check the battery status I typically see that the display accounts for 70% or more.

Is there any point trying to do a factory reset or unplugging the battery? Once I did run into the problem that the battery ran down to 0 when the Vox was off and it would not charge until I peeled off the back and hit the hardware reset button. Sometimes I wonder if the battery indicator is accurate or if the battery actually has more than the indicated 10% charge when the low battery warning pops up.

I tried e-mailing Kobo support but have not received any reply other than to note that the e-mail address I used did not match the one I used to create my Kobo account. Any suggestions for what else I can try would be appreciated - I'm generally happy with the Vox except for the short battery life.

This really does not sound right. We have a older model Kobo and an IRiver Story HD (with wi-fi) and the power seems to last for ages - I have never measured it but I would not have to recharge more than once a week. I read a lot so it is used very frequently.
Get back onto Kobo (write a letter if they won't accept your email address) and keep on at them until they respond.

Srsly?!? Those are both e-ink devices. The vox is a _colour_ tablet. Apples and oranges.

Ok - well my Asus lasts for about 8 hours too. Two hours? Please! Sounds like a device I wouldn't waste $10 on.

Something is wrong with the unit if it only lasts two hours. Return or exchange it if it won't last longer than two hours. You may be past the return period but it has a year of warranty so use it! Demand an exchange.

It's back to running pretty much normally on the power draw. No idea why it was dumping so quickly, other than it might have been falsely reporting the amount of power left after dumping charge in standby mode.
