actually some readers are available that "interface" with Adobe Digital Editions, such as Aldiko, so there are alternatives to Overdrive which will allow you to read library or other drm'd books.

You search and download your books from within the overdrive app on the vox.

Hopefully Kobo's Vox reading app will add capabilities to work like the Touch and Alkido on these file types at some point.

Mr. Nobody,

What is involved with stripping the DRM? First off is that illegal? I wouldn't be stealing the books as I would delete them when I was done.

Thanks, Lori

IANAL but as I understand it, in Canada it isn't technically illegal yet to remove DRM in general. That new copyright bill will make it illegal. I am not sure if the ADE UELA means you agree not to strip it, perhaps so.

Yes, it is illegal. I know there are some python scripts around. It's possible there is some easier way as well.

[edit]: Sorry, illegal may be the wrong word. It is certainly a violation of copyright.

First, you need a library card. If you don't have one, then you have to physically get over to your public library and get one. If the librarian is knowledgeable about eBooks and the Vox in particular, (s)he will walk you through the Onerdrive install and accessing the library. You will also need to get an Adobe ID and password, which will be explained. When you install Overdrive, you won't see anything there except a blurb about Overdrive. However, when you press the Menu button on the Vox, it has an option to add a library. You press that and find your library and sign in with your card and PIN and away you go.

and installing the whole thing isn't as hard as it may sound.
You have to hooked up to Wifi, go to browser. Search for overdrive. Then on that website you will see option to download app. Do this. Then I think on VOX you need to go to APPs, then DOWNLOADS to load overdrive. Then open it.
Then the menu, add library, search for your library. You need you library card and password.
at somepoint it will prompt for Adobe, then you either make one up, or use one youhave.

if you do this on your PC first, it might be easier. You will have to do it all overagain on the VOX, but seeing it bigger first might be easier.
I have found there are some awesome people at my public library that helped me do this on my BB, I have done it on my VOX, and my inlaws tablet.

Never? I know it isn't listed on the Adobe web site as being a compatible device, but why do you say it will never be? Is there some technical reason for this? The reason I ask is that I purchased an eBook licensed through ADE and I was able to read it on my old Kobo, but not on the Vox. I posted a question on the Adobe users' forum, but nobody suggested that it would NEVER be compatible. Some people seemed to think it was just a matter of time before Adobe got around to adding it to the list of compatible devices.

You would be able to read it with Aldiko. In the Aldiko settings, you can enter your ADE username etc. and that allows you do read any DRM'd books. I believe there is also a work around for the Kobo app but since I never use it, I couldn't help.
Have you authorized your device (Vox) to the ADE on your PC? That may be one of the reasons you can't read it on the Vox.
Here is the link for the Aldiko apk:

I wasn't able to authorize my Vox with ADE. When I plugged it in and started up ADE, nothing happened. Based on responses from people in the Adobe forum, that's to be expected, because it isn't a "compatible device". I'll try it with Aldiko when I get home. Thanks.

I said "never" based on the assumption it was kobo that would have to do the work, not adobe. Since it's an android device and there's an android app that performs the same task, why would they spend any effort making it compatible? But if in fact it is adobe that needs to do the work (which I guess makes sense) then I suppose it's possible.

There are in fact 3 parties involved here: adobe, kobo and overdrive. Does anyone actually know which one or ones would need to do something to make it compatible?
