a 4gb sd card shows 3.8gb free. the 8gb card showed 7.5gb free. the kindle does write several folders onto a new card and depending on the filesystem access method they use, those figures don't bother me enough i'd start looking for the 'missing' space. the cards are not formatted to those even numbers anyway on any device.

[later: oh, i just woke up and am slow before my coffee, i just realized you meant between the 7.5gb figure and the log entry of 7902720KiB. i can't explain the discrepancy except by unformatted vs unformatted space. those figures seem to make sense based on a percentage of 8gb perhaps is the best explanation.]

8GB Transcend SDHC working fine

Received and installed my Transcend 8GB SDHC card today, ordered from Amazon for ~$36. You give away ~1/2 GB off the bat, the price of formatting on an 8GB card, but it installed and registered right off. First order of business was then copying the 11 books from the Kindle memory to the SD card, which worked fine. Going forward I'll be keeping all of my more permanent content on SD to free up the base Kindle storage for the more 'transient' content like my WSJ and NYT subs as well as various PDF's from work that I xfer to my Kindle for easy reference (and way easier viewing than on my Blackberry).

Now I also feel like I can add a lot more books to my SD 'library' because, frankly, with an 8GB card I think there will be a 3rd gen Kindle on the way and memory will be $0.10/GB by the time I fill this thing up (assuming just text, not audio books).

I know this is an old post, but just to note that there is no discrepency in those figures.

7902720kb = 7902720/1024/1024 = 7.54GB

which agrees with the "rounded off" figure of 7.5GB which gets displayed.

Question,, have 512 kb card, converted .lit books using ABC Amber Lit converter. Only 26 show up on Kindle, on card have about 75. All seemed to work well after conversion. I even moved all converted books to Kindle's main memory, still only 26. Card has plenty of free space What I I doing wrong?

I have used a pre-formatted (FAT) 16gb SDHC card into my Kindle. It recognized the card and I had 6 GB of music loaded which played without problem.

Kindle 8GB SD card

4GB is supposed to be the maximum size that a Kindle will accept, however, today I installed an 8GB SD Card and it is working well. Can't think of any draw back that this might have.
