i think that an e-ink reader is a better choice for strictly reading, but it really is personal preference.

i use a reading light that is powered by a single rechargeable AAA battery. the charge lasts for over a month. if anything, the light is a little too bright even on low setting -- i put some scotch tape over it to tone it down a little.

here is a thread in which i describe my setup:

as a side note, i own the kindle keyboard model. a friend of mine asked me which kindle model to get for a christmas present, and after going over all of the various models with him i concluded that i still like the keyboard edition best. if you shop around, you can pick up a used one for less than half the cost of a new one. and i think i remember reading that amazon honors the warranty even if the device changes hands, so as long as the kindle is relatively new there is warranty protection.

i consider the wireless delivery via email one of the relatively unsung kindle advantages. i check out library books (my library now has kindle format), and it is really cool to make a few mouse clicks and -boom!- new book on the kindle.

good luck

Ask and you shall receive.....thanks so much for all the info and in a timely manner. We decided on the Kindle Touch and my wife has it in her hot little hands.

Now, I'll start the learning process so we can download some books and "see how she do".

Thanks again and Happy New Year.
