Some people take their privacy very seriously and don't like any agency monitoring their activities. I wouldn't call their desire for privacy meaningless. Their 'tantrums' are a product of living in a society that dismisses their desire for privacy.

Even though I find some privacy advocates a bit excessive, I am not going to trash their values.

I disagree. By putting recommendations up without my requesting them, the website (as well as my reader) is making me go out of my way to avoid them, thus taking up more of my time.

I buy a lot of ebooks from Kobobooks and I get a lot of recommendations. I don't mind looking at them, but not everytime I go to their webpage (or every time I open my Kobo Touch).

I always believe that choice is good. Please give us the choice to turn it off, that's all.

FWIW, I went onto the website and cleared all the books in the recommendations thingee on the front page (clicking already read or not interested). I did this on Friday. The recommendations choice for the carousel disappeared after I did a sync and so far, neither the website or the device recommendations have repopulated.

My guess is that this is a bug, rather than a feature, and it may not last, but I'm throwing it out there anyway.
