Daithi - the Belgariad is available in ebook format; in fact all of Eddings' books are. I have them all.

I have discovered that the Belgariad is available as ebook. I think I saw it on Barnes and Nobel. I agree that it is not available from Sony as an ebook.

Thanks for everyone's input, and I've updated my list. The one that really gets me is that The Belgariad series by David Eddings is available but not as a Kindle eBook. The same with A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller Jr.

Yes it is - at least in the UK. I've bought all of Eddings' books from the Amazon UK Kindle Store.

The only thing I see available in the U.S. is audio versions. Even when you click the paperback and hardback versions there isn't Kindle version listed as an available "other versions".

Strange. Is this perhaps a case where there are different UK and US publishers, and the UK publisher has produced ebooks but the US publisher hasn't?

That appears to be the case. I do not see an ebook version of the Belgariad available in the US version of Amazon, Sony or Barnes and Noble.

That's sadly a common situation. For example, there are no Anne McCaffrey eBooks available in the UK, but they are available in the US.

Dame Daphne Du Maurier died in 1989, so no, it's very definitely not "public domain", and won't be for a very, very long time.
