Mine updated pretty much like RP said above and seems to be working fine.

One item that would be fixed according to a beta tester here was stopping the auto-rotation in the reader when it was disabled in the display settings. That's one of the first things I checked and it apparently hasn't been fixed. In fact, after I uncheck the auto-rotation in the display setting, it doesn't work at all, not even in the browser, where it worked before.

OOps! I just went into the reader and found I could now lock it in portrait mode. Don't know why unchecking auto-rotation in the general display settings won't work in the browser, but it's the reader I was concerned about primarily.

Kat, I am sorry you are having such enormous problems. I wonder if it has anything at all to do with some of the things you attempted as you sought to fix the previous build. I think if I were you, I would do a factory update which should install the current (new) build.

I don't understand your response. I DID the update, which is what wrecked the Vox in the first place.

Besides, due to the fact that it is also falsely reporting the battery status, it now won't update either because it says the battery is too low.

It is plugged into the charger. It won't shut off. It won't go into standby. It won't charge. It won't update.

And no, I am not willing to accept any 'blame' for any of this. Some of the things I attempted? I didn't attempt anything that anyone else didn't also try to do. In fact, I gave up playing around with it long before a lot of other people did, and I was just working with it as is.

I think it is intentional--but I cannot know for sure. I touched the menu button and then "refresh". As it happens, my Vox did not sync a few of my recent purchases when I did this. Odd.

EDIT: about a half hour later, sync began as soon as i switched to library and all of my books downloaded. I'm voting inexplicable oddity

I wasn't trying to assign blame. Some people did all sorts of things, some very few. Some nothing at all. I am sorry you can't update until your battery has more charge. What more can i say?

Sleep of death hasn't been fixed for me. Worse than ever, now even doing a force power off and power on won't make it come back to life! Had to fiddle with the power button multiple times to get it to turn back on. Back to the never off setting for wireless for me. Kobo are in for a flood of calls after Christmas if very many people end up with this problem with their new Christmas toys.

my previous "no name" books now have names in the Kobo Library.

Great for my uploaded patterns!!!! and also for some of those free public domain books.

I've like the new bookshelf I picked too.

The beta group never had a production build to test (not unusual), but the last beta we did test needed to have WiFi set to never for most, but not all, of the folks who had the sleep of death problem. I can't begin to tell you how much time went into trying to solve this before this build. My best guess is that so many features were added to the Kobo App and so many other issues were resolved, that they decided to release it even though it is not perfect, yet.

It was definitely a good example of being between a rock and a hard place, from my POV. I may be speaking a bit out of school in commenting about this, but I did want to tell you what I observed as a member of the beta group as Kobo developers tried so hard to get this right.

Chances are, the fix will turn out to be something that has the developers slapping their heads in disbelief when it is figured out. I have had similar things happen to me in my work when something was just not working and I couldn't get it right--until suddenly I could.

If this is true, very disappointing and I will not bother with this update. I need to be able to change my bookshelf background like I need another hole in my head. What I actually need is to be able to put my device to sleep with wifi off and have it wake up. *grumble*

I think this update might have made it so the power button turns on the Vox after a longer push (like 3ish seconds?). I think this was done to stop it from turning on and off in bags. I cannot tell you for sure that this has happened, but it was in the most recent beta. This might be why you think it wouldn't turn on? Just try it a little longer.

For the record, it didn't solve my sleep-of-death either, but it hasn't made anything worse. And I know that there are a LOT of better things, even though the sleep-of-death fix is still trying to be worked out.

Don't forget the other non-cosmetic fixes.

Stability improvements

Resolves an issue with the battery level not reporting the correct charge.
Resolves an issue where some customers lost their WiFi connection.
Resolves an issue where some streaming videos would not play.
Improved (my emphasis)the stability of resuming from Standby mode.
Various bug fixes.

See OP for the complete list--some more important to some people than others.

it also fixed my sleep of death, from when I put it into sleepmode, (that was the first thing I checked) anyhow, I haven't let it go to sleep yet to see if it wakes up easy from that or not.

It also kept Wifi on, which wasn't a big concern for me since I usually put it into airplane mode.

Nope.

Tech support is suggesting my product is defective and needs to be exchanged. I think the firmware is defective.

I'm going to try to let the battery drain and see if that gives its butt a solid kick. In the meantime, I've signed out of accounts in case I do have to exchange it. I'm going to contact the vendor and see if they'll exchange it. We're leaving for an extended trip in 3 weeks and I want this settled before we go.

I'll be calling the vendor we bought it from tomorrow and see if they will give me a new one. We're going to the U.S. for a few weeks and I had been hoping to have a Vox with me for the trip.

This ain't doing my recovery any good, I shouldn't be up fussing with this right now. I just wanted to read while recovering from my surgery...

Sorry, James, but I'm thoroughly not impressed with this. I think if I ever do get this thing resurrected, I'll be ignoring future updates.
