Hi Harry when you say they are dire, do you mean the content is not ocr'd or is there something wrong with the format?

To install PRS+ please install version 1.1.0.0.18040 first. E.g. by applying
Uninstaller_505.exe "Uninstaller" of PRS+ for 505, installs standard sony firmware 1.1.00.18040 here

I have changed the version and it still will not work. Exactly what is the file I should be copying? is it installer.js ?

I mean that it's automated, uncorrected, OCR, full of errors. If you've read any of them you'll be well aware of that.

PRS+ is excellent, however, it seems to be very differnet from the original. How is it every time I open a book it has to be transferred to the main memory? If I bookmark a page it doesn't come up as marked on the bookmark section of the main page. On another note, I nrmaly copy web pages into word and then save the document as an rtf, how can I save it directly as an epub? I use calibre for transfering books but i can't see a facility for creating an epub file.

This is the side-effect of having set "scan-MS/SD" to disabled.

This way the whole content of MS/SD-card is ignored at startup -> no delay.
But also books are "invisible" to standard book-lists, you can reach the content only via BrowseFolder.

If you delete the cache-files on your MS/SD-cards you can also set this option to "disable-scan load cache".

This way a book can be opend from MS/SD-card. A media node will be created and the book will from now on show up in standard UI-nodes "book by author / book by title" a.s.o.

If you open a huge number of book from MS/SD this way startup will slow down again.

You might find a answer over at the calibre forum here at MR.

At a first thought I would save as html, import html into calibre and do a html2epub conversion.

Given the low price of the Sony T1, it might perhaps be worth considering trading up from your 505. The 505 is an excellent reader, but the current devices really are a lot better.
