I'm sure you are right. I'm really pretty clueless... But I couldn't get the "press n while starting up" that was meant to bring me into recovery mode to work at all until I used the 1.3 image, and it seemed I'm not alone. But maybe I just didn't do it right... Either way, I'm a happy camper now!

Ha, well you definitely don't want an outdated version of the installer--if no boot menu is the only problem it caused you, count yourself lucky.
I keep my SD install guide up to date (so far at least) and people seem to find it easy to follow: http://taosaur.blogspot.com/2011/09/...m-sd-nook.html |

So are you saying that with an SD card running CM7.1 that you press the power while holding down the N until it starts? I assume that if that works it the N press somehow just overrides the boot from CM7
Haven't had the need to restart my Nook for some time now but will try it next time I do. |

What I do is I hold the N, press the power button and hold it for a few seconds until I see a reaction (like a flickerer) and then I let go of the power button but keep the N down a little longer. I then get into a boot menu where I can choose to either continue boot from the sd card or go to original OS.

You only need to hold power until you see a flash, indicating that the unit is powering on, then as soon as you see any words on the screen (currently a small CyanogenMod banner), hold 'n' until it says "loading boot menu," then you can release.
