Thanks for the clarification. I have called twice and both times people understood English well enough. I had to ask them to slow down when they spoke to me as i had trouble understanding what is actually a normal verbal speed because i am not used to their accents.

FWIW, the call I made tonight was answered within a few seconds of my having made the menu choice. There was no waiting at all.

I usually prefer doing everything by Email, but I wanted to try the support line for myself. i had a question about a recent change (for which I already knew there wasn't a real answer yet) just to see how it was handled. i was very satisfied--though the follow-up by email has been less than wonderful even though it is being handled by Tier 2 in Canada.

PS: your answer was influenced by your personal situation as a time crunched mom of young kids. Mine is no doubt influenced by the fact that I am a social worker by training and an immigrant to Canada. Of course as an immigrant from the US I don't get complaints about my accent nearly as much as I get to hear some pretty amazing negative remarks about Americans. And they say Canadians value multiculturalism and are polite .

Not always!

I think Americans and Canadians are like brothers and sisters: You're quite close, you love each other - but sometimes you love to make fun of each other!

Where I live, there is probably more acceptance of Americans than Western Canadians, lol. When you think about it, geography tends to influence cultural relations more than artificially drawn on political boundaries.

You're an American 'import'? Small world...so am I. Raised in Phoenix, Arizona, most of my life spent in Van Nuys (the Los Angeles valley), and moved up to Canada later in life. I love both countries and love to state (when asked...) that I am a citizen of North America. (large grin). I haven't really seen all that much of a (or should I type, 'eh') cultural difference between the U.S. of A. and Canada (except of course, for Quebec). Jeans are jeans, music is music, and food is food. Politics are also the same. Same old, same old. If they ever took away the 'appointed and argued' borders...we'd all flow into the melting pot together. Perhaps that will happen one day. For economic, and or social reasons. Who knows....

Taming: I know that fixing Netflix won't fix Youtube, but seeing this thread brought it to mind as it is one main feature I bought my Vox for. On another topic, I actually have to send my purchased one in, just waiting on a label and envelope, because the techs came to the conclusion it is possessed. So they've sent me a replacement and it works great. I was even able to load up the beta. Sepia rules as does the redone UI for library settings.

New version from the Market works.
It's not the total multimedia experience (a bit choppy at times) but watchable.

Hell yes! New version works perfectly!

I'm not even getting any chop (assuming I'm not running anything in the background), even on the internet connection on my phone.

Oh and YouTube works as well. Version from the market, logged into my Google account through the framework.

Is this for the Kobo Vox in Canada? Where can you get the app if so?

It would be helpful if the apk was available in Canada ... I might even restart my Netflix account.

Cece, SensualPoet, please read three posts up. It is available in Canada. Just scroll up the thread a little and you'll both see that all is well. Every info is there.

Sorry, hieronymous, I am not quite following here.

I have Windows 7 Pro, not Linux. I guess I'd be prepared to do a simple command line thingie in command.com under Windows that pointed at a Vox drive over USB but I don't want to root the Vox.

In order to load the working Netflix app, do I need to have the Market app from Google installed? Which, since the Vox is not recognised, can't be done in Canada?

I don't have a problem loading any non-official apps, but I am not comfortable doing something as drastic (albeit reversible) as rooting.
