I've just started Ready to Catch Him Should He Fall by Neil Bartlett. Only a few pages in, but it seems promising - or maybe not if you're heterosexual. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I have screwed up my holiday reading. Only taking 5 days this year and I have about 10 books. Currently reading Reamde but should finish that tomorrow. Then I am away and will start book 3 of 1Q84. That will get me through the first 2 days. Think Fingersmith will be next then I dont know.

I've got The Whole Truth by Jim Murdoch - it's actually two books published as one: Living with the Truth and Stranger than Fiction.
Along with that I'm hoping to squeeze in The Time Machine by Wells. I'm almost finished Beasts and Super Beasts by Saki. I don't know if I'll get time for anything else this year - but it would be nice to squeeze another book in if possible. |

![]() Definitely second this, Hogfather's a great Christmas book. The other one I'd recommend is The Christmas Mystery by Jostein Gaarder. It's just magical. My mum read it to me when I was a kid and I actually cried when it ended, not because it was sad, but because I wanted there to be more book ![]() As for me, two I'll definitely be reading are The Scar by China Mieville and Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. I'll probably read my next TP book as well which is The Last Continent and some of my other paper books, before I get my Kobo at Christmas. And I'll definitely have to finish Catch-22 - went home to my mum's about three months ago and left it there, so only got about 100 pages in. After I get my Kobo, one of the first books I plan on reading for it is Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson. I've really wanted to read them for ages but the size (both of the books and the series) put me off, as I've only got wee hands, and not a lot of spare time. Making it my project for the next year though! |

Angels of Vengeance by John Birminham is top of my list this Christmas holidays. Then there is a new e-book only 'novella' by Mr. Birmingham... another alt-hist WWII story, apparently.
Then there is the continuation of Eric Flint's 1633 series... and more Honor Harrington... and I'd like to get a start on 1Q84... and... and... and... If Christmas were to last until Easter, I would still be unable to read all that I want to. ![]() Paul. Canberra, Australia |

There are some that do reference what happened before and there are some that move on from what happened before. And if you have not read what happened before, what's happening now might not make much sense.

And the bonus material is just a preview of either an upcoming book and another of his books. So if you already have it, no need to get the one with the bonus material.

I read this a few months ago and was pleased, considering it's a hundred year-old tale. I eagerly moved on to The Invisible Man and skidded to a halt. *shrugs* I had a similar experience with John Le Carré: Liked the first book, quit the second, liked the third.
