That too is easier if the books are single (it would take forever to read through the whole of Dickens, for instance!) and I don't want to have to re-read books I have read already and know are fine just because they are in one of these compilations and haven't been checked.
I got the following email from Delphi Classics today that addresses this problem (somewhat ); it's only for the Dickens' works and I think they're in mobi format:

Dear customer,

We are pleased to announce the release of our new title: Dickens eVolume Edition

A first of its kind product on our website, the Dickens eVolume Edition presents our bestselling Complete Works of Dickens in 20 separate eBooks. For those readers who like to see how far through they are in a novel, this Edition is perfect. All the novels are placed in their own individual 'eVolume', while other texts more suited to compilation are arranged together.

For more details or to purchase a copy, please click on this link.

Thank you for reading our email!
Maybe they'll eventually go that route with the other collections ...

Yes, I saw that and I will probably buy it. It is a great idea. Actually, I am using their table of contents listings for a few other books (the Austen, for instance) and plan to download my own complete series sets from here. I have a spare Kindle right now (it's going to my aunt in February) and I want to load it up with all my classics and do some reading.

I also saw the new Dickens "eVolume" release and think it's a great way to handle large collections. I suggested something similar to them a few months ago, so perhaps they've had other similar requests and decided to try it. Being able to tell where you are in a particular book is nice, but it's also nice to use less storage if you only want one or two novels at a time rather than the author's entire body of works.

I hope they do this with other volumes. If they do, I might wind up re-buying many of them just for the convenience.

Thank you for this thread, I just followed a link and found that they have Marcel Proust in French in their new releases! I have several free versions but none is really satisfying. Books that big need at least a working table of contents, especially when several books are published in one volume. And $1.99 seems like a very reasonable price for this. I think I'll buy it.

Has anybody tried their French editions? The French presentation texts on the web site, while they don't look like a machine translation, have quite a few mistakes, that makes me a bit nervous about the quality of the books themselves.

And no DRM!
This! I have several of these. Yes they are large files and slow but it's very nice to have ALL of an authors works. And when I had a problem with a new release they exchanged emails with me, reformatted the problem books in their catalog and allowed me to re-download all within a few hours.

And they are constantly updating - correcting or improving formatting errors, typos, etc. And updates are free for re-downloads.
Plus - they read customer emails and respond positively to comments/suggestions. This publisher actually wants to create and sell quality ebooks at a reasonable price - what a concept!
