I was one of the posters who got that message, deleted a couple of apps, then redownloaded and installed them, and a whole lot of others and have never received the message again.

Dead Space works on the Kindle Fire. This was one of the first games I purchased for my son from the Amazon App Store to illustrate the power of the Kindle Fire. Oddly, the game is currently unavailable on the Amazon App Store (http://www.amazon.com/Dead-Space-Kin.../dp/B0066T0EVE), but Madden 2012 is.

1 GB is actually pretty generous because when it comes to Android Apps, most of them are on the order of a few hundred KB, with some all the way to about 15 - 20 MB. App developers that are App storage conscious will make their App installs very small and place App data in external storage instead.

To put this into perspective, only the Dead Space App is installed on the App partition in Android. The App itself only uses 316 KB of App Storage! (Settings --> More (+) --> Applications --> All Applications --> Find and Touch Dead Space). However, the game data is installed on the larger User Data (SD Card aka external storage) partition and the App fetches it from there.

This may only be a temporary fix. Clearing cache is always recommended on any OS. However, clearing App Data may have some unintended consequences depending on the App (e.g. loss of files, settings, accounts, databases and so on). For example, if you Clear Data in Documents to Go the next time you launch it you will be greeted by the registration screen, and Recent Files will be blank.

Please read the post below for a possible explanation of why it took you three shutdowns in order to clear the message and hoard another App.

Amazon did a poor job in the Fire Menu options (Settings --> More --> Device) of showing the user the storage breakdown on the Fire. If you want to get a clearer picture of your Fire's App storage including how it is being used and what you have left, I highly recommend you download a FREE App called Quick System Info Pro from the Amazon App Store.

Here is the storage breakdown from the Basic Info Tab in Quick System Info Pro:

SD card storage (aka External Storage): 5.00 GB (User and App data is stored here).

A2SD storage: 220 MB (Apps that support Apps 2 SD will be installed here if space is available).

I was surprised to find Amazon included some App storage in External Storage. If an App can do so it will automatically attempt to install itself to the "SD Card".

Internal Storage: 1.09 GB (Most Apps are installed here). When you add this to the A2SD storage the Fire actually has 1.3 GB of App storage.

System Storage: 504 MB

System cache: 252 MB

Memory: 446 MB

Quick System Info Pro will continue to run in the background after launched and will provide basic system information in the Notification Bar (e.g. CPU Usage, Memory Usage, Wi-Fi Transmit (TX) and Receive (RX) statistics and rates).

If you want to shut down Quick System Pro, in the App select the Processes Tab, find and touch Quick System Info Pro, and select End Task.

A lot of users say they have to restart their Fire many times after clearing cache in order to install an App. The reason could be because many Apps like to conveniently start themselves when your tablet starts and some may not have had an opportunity to reestablish their claim of the Fire's resources before you installed another App.

If you look under the Processes Tab of Quick System Info Pro you will likely see some Apps there that you didn't launch. To limit the amount of Apps that "launch" processes at startup and conserve even more of your Fire's valuable resources, I recommend you download an App called Startup Cleaner 2.0. This App allows you to control which Apps you want to allow to "launch" at startup and which ones you don't. This helps conserve system resources as well as improve startup time.
Thanks. Very good explanation. Very helpful to us Android noobies.

No problem. Make sure you grab a copy of Quick System Info Pro FREE from Amazon and Startup Cleaner 2.0 so you can keep tabs on and manage your Fire's resources.

UPDATE: Apparently Startup Cleaner will not shut down startup Apps from Amazon that are part of the Fire's default OS.

I've been saving some of your hints for future reference cause I know in the future I'll think, 'now what was it that I was told'.

Me too! I won't be getting my tablet until December 13th, but I've been making a list of apps and tips from these threads.

The link to Android Developers is valid however, a couple of other forum members, myself included, had had some problems with the website over the weekend. I checked the site this morning and it appears to be corrected. Thanks for the info on an alternate download source. Here's the link:
