But don't be obvious. Folks thought they were being cute when they used 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and were annoyed when they were not able to buy books. I have seen this for several different e-readers.

Avoid the headquarters for BN, Google, Microsoft and all that silly stuff.

I live in Italy and have a nook. I haven't purchased anything recently, using the public library is so much more cost effective, but I was able to buy books from B&N, just not from my nook. I do have a US credit card and billing address, but I always had to use my computer to purchase them then download to my computer or directly to my nook.

I just tried and it appears they are still only checking IP addresses on Nooks not computers. I believe the address is the billing address on the credit card. THe error always came from the credit card verification department when I tried to buy things from my nook. I would really look into her local library, I haven't had to buy a book for many months, although I am thinking about getting my mothers library account info, her library is much better.

Last October B&N changed its policy. If you have an US credit card you can now buy ebooks anywhere in the world.

Interesting, they still block you from installing the Nook App. I'll have to try and sideload it again and see if that works..

Anyone know if there is an app that will "spoof" your location on the nook? So far none of the proxies I have tried actually work.

@Drumm, you can do one of three things:

1. Just get an .apk from someone who has one and sideload it on. This is the easiest but you won't get updates or the latest version, and the apk could be just masquerading.

2. Root your nook and install MarketEnabler which may help to spoof your location as in the US and using a US carrier. This one didn't work for me when I tried to get the NOOK for Android app.

3. Get an account with AppBrain and install the Android Appbrain app. Then install and configure their fast web installer which pushes apps to the device. Once you've done that, go to the AppBrain site on your PC, and find the NOOK app for android. Click the big install link and choose the fast web installer option when prompted. It should then redirect your phone to the Market link and you're done

Hi,

just an update - my aunt changed her billing address to match the US shipping address and voila, it worked! She still used the Canadian credit card.
Thank you all so much for your help!

For those who need to make up a US address, just so you know almost any US town or city has a Pine St - so a low number Pine St address with any town and zip will usually work.
