I love reading and I love gadgets. I'm always open to buying new gadgets. No other reason.
Oh, yes, there is another reason as to why I buy multiple readers, because I can. ![]() |

I only bought a second ereader because I could get it for $12 after rebate. I can't pass up a great deal. After keeping it for only a day, I gave it to my daughter.
My husband said he was going to get me a Kindle Fire for Christmas but I said not to. Like the OP, I don't know why I would need a second reader. Now if Fire had 3G, that would be a whole different story... |

I sell my old ereaders immediately upon buying a new one. I just got a Nook STR and sold my Kobo Touch because I didn't need it anymore. I think I would keep two different ereaders if there were DRM issues, like for example if I had a Kindle and a Nook, because the formats are incompatible. But I have bought Kindle books before and just stripped the DRM and converted them to epub so I can read on my Nook.
I also have an iPod touch, but I really only read books on it when I'm in line at the grocery store or something. I've read some books on it before I bought my first eInk reader, but it's not an ideal ereader for reading a whole book. I will admit to having (and using) two mp3 players, though. One is my iPod touch, and the other is an iPod nano. But they have different purposes; the iPod nano is my music device and the iPod touch is more of a pocket-iPad for me. I use it to check email, watch videos, surf the web, etcetera while I'm away from my computer. |

Gotta have one for every bathroom since I ran out of the TP with the "Far Side" cartoons printed on it.

I'm keeping my K2 as it's not really worth anything, I and I don't have anyone I could gift it to that would appreciate it.
I am holding onto my K3 at least until the lighted cover arrives for my K touch. I may sell it then. I bought the 950 for reading ePubs and library books. I got the Boox because I really wanted a large format reader. I got the DX last week during the sale, as my Boox does nothing but freeze, and is a pain to use. I'd sell the Boox, but I can't in good conscience knowing how awful it is to use. |

I use my Pocket EZ-Reader as my daily reader; I love the 5" screen and page turning buttons in three different places so I can read it with whichever hand I have available while standing on the train.
I keep my Sony PRS-505 around because it reads RTF; the PEZ support for non-ebook formats (doc, html, txt) is atrocious--it sometimes hyphenates single-syllable words in the middle, and the formatting's awful. Also, once in a while the larger screen size really helps. (I've got a collection of xkcd comics saved out; they show up fine on the Sony and are too hard to read on the PEZ.) If I could get a new device with a 5" screen, easy navigation (which I consider both my current devices to have; the Sony is better) and *good* support for epub, pdf and at least one easily-editable format, I might give them both up. My husband has a Sony 300. I've considered getting one. (Not the 350; I don't want a touchscreen.) I got the PEZ instead because I thought it supported HTML. It displays HTML, sort of; I wouldn't call it "support." I'm leery of the other devices--Pocketbook, Opus, Hanvons--and wouldn't be willing to pay money for one before seeing it in action; the PEZ was something of a disappointment. It's exactly what I wanted for epub reading, and it's nice that it covers mobi as well, but it didn't live up to my hopes, in several areas. |

I bought my Nook 1E because it had the features I wanted at a price I wanted to pay. The Kobo WiFi was on sale for $50 and had 100 classics preloaded - I couldn't pass that up. The Kindle Keyboard 3G with SO was something my wife wanted but never used, so I've inherited it and it's currently my e-reader of choice.
I intend to keep and use all 3 e-readers. The Nook when I want to read epub library books, free epub books and e-books purchased from B&N, the Kobo when I want to read the classics and the Kindle for Kindle library books and e-book purchases from Amazon. |

i don't get it either, i think its a waste of money. when mine breaks then i'll get another one.
i also think the rush to grab the "latest and greatest" of any tech is foolish. enjoy paying to be a beta tester.... i think i just have a very old fashioned view of things. if what i have still works why would i spend the $$$ if i don't have to. i'm only 34, i should be all about new tech and whatnot but i'm just not ![]() |
