My Kindle Touch has excellent battery life. I read a couple of hours a day, and can get at least a month on a charge.
Pugbytes, forgive me for asking, but have you checked to see whether you have a file that has got "stuck" while indexing? This really will drain the battery very quickly indeed, and is a pretty common problem. Last edited by HarryT; 12-20-2011 at 04:10 AM. |

indexing vs battery life for touch kindle
Yes, I have checked for any indexing situation maybe running amuck, but there are no indexing issues. This is what is so frustrating is that some of us hear from everyone over and over again about indexing, wi-fi, lighted covers, large fonts etc etc. I repeat again, I have a keyboard kindle that I use the same way as my new touch kindle. I was expecting an even better battery life because that is what they claim and was very disappointed to find that the battery as bad as a droid cell phone. The battery life, in my case and some others, has been abysmal for the touch kindle. The battery life in my keyboard kindle is remarkable. I suspect there may be some battery problems or a software problem out there, otherwise we would not be seeing so many comments from so many people on the net in many forums that are having this problem. I hope that at some point they will find and answer to this and eventually we will see no more questions regarding this situation. I plan on keeping my touch kindle for now and wait to see how all this works out later. I do prefer the way the touch kindle works and will tolerate the recharging frequency for now. Still , thank you for your suggestion.

The reason that people are asking is precisely because what you're seeing is not normal, and there must be some rational reason for that. My Kindle Touch, and that of nearly everyone else does not have the problems that you describe. Look at this forum - it's not full of complaints about the KT's battery life, is it? If there was a widespread problem it would be. Your problem is not a common one.

I would exchange it again because the battery life should equal the K3's if not something is wrong.

battery again!
Yes, it is possible that my battery problem is not very common, but it is also not very uncommon as well since some of the Kindle forums and kindle support questions show that other kindle touch owners have similar issues about the battery life. Maybe it was just a bad batch of batteries that slipped through. In any case, when I noticed my touch kindle drained more quickly than my keyboard kindle, I went on line to see if I was having an unusual individual problem and I found others with the same difficulty (not just on this forum). I am confident that it will eventually work out to everyone's satisfaction. I have found in the past the Kindle support has been very good and I have no complaints. They have a very good product and service that I highly recommend to all my friends.

kindle touch battery one last time- solution
I am posting this info on this site regarding battery drain for the kindle touch as there may be other kindle owners who may check this site in addition to their kindle support site. I have had a problem with the battery draining too fast in my touch kindle. Doing a factory reset as recommended by support did not help. They sent me a new one which also drained quickly. I did not try the factory reset on the new one, since it did not work on my first touch kindle. A few days later, just for the heck of it, I finally tried the factory reset on the new kindle. I also did a long full day (24 hour) charge as well. That combo finally solved the problem. For those who are still wrestling with a battery problem with the TK, do a factory reset and long charge. Understand that you will need to re register the kindle and down load your books again, but that is not a big deal and is worth it to get the battery life that kindle guarantees. I don't know if the long charge is important or not, but I did not try the long charge with my first touch kindle and the factory reset alone did not help. Good luck!

Both my 6 inch and my keyboard kindles have great battery life provided I leave the wifi OFF. If I don't think I will use the unit for a couple of days, turning it off helps as well.
Its hard to compare with the touch ones because they put a better battery in them so it's almost apples and oranges. However, my mom gets a lot more battery life out of her PPW if she shuts it off each night rather than just letting it sleep (she does not read in bed). This was not a big issue with my units. |
