Hm, odd. It won't show up on my Nook as a book, I have to go into "my files" and select "JPHEC.epub" in order to read it. I can't even add it to any shelves.

I suggest that you go to the Nook forum and get some help there. I know absolutely nothing about nooks. I do know that those EPUBs open in both Sigil & ADE.

Yeah, it looks fine in both ADE and Calibre but my Nook doesn't recognize it as a book. Dunno why.

Also, the lack of any formatting in this epub is irritating. If I knew more about CSS I'd make the text justified, get rid of the double space in between paragraphs, and make the margins bigger. I can use the Nook settings to adjust the margins, but I can do nothing about the jagged right margins or double space in between paragraphs.

Those issues, i believe I can help with. set calibre up with the look & feel set to an indent size and also a space between paragraphs size and then also set it to full justify. Then convert EPUB to EPUB. And after the conversion maybe it'll act better on your nook as well?

Oh, and add it to your nook using Calibre's send to device.

Oh I didn't know calibre could do that. I just hit "tweak ePub," then I started messing around with the style sheet and couldn't figure it out. I'll look into that, thanks.

No. I Googled how to fix it and went through the CSS, changing the text indent, and the justification, and the margins, and the double spacing. But when I copied it to my Nook, everything was the way it used to be. No margins, double spacing, no indent, jagged right margins. Deleted it off the Nook, tried again, and again it was the same. In Calibre it looks perfect, but the Nook is not reading the style sheet the way it's supposed to.

I'm installing Sigil and I'll see if that works. If it does, I'm going to go through a lot of my Project Gutenberg books and fix that stuff too, because poor formatting bothers me so much.

Good luck. Sigil has a WYSIWYG element, & a code editing element. What i do sometimes when i can't do what I want because the code is making it difficult to do is I convert to MOBI then Convert the MOBI back to EPUB. That fixes a lot of problems for me. I hope to hear that you're successful in doing what you wish to do.

Yeah, Sigil didn't make any difference. I couldn't figure out how to do anything in it, because none of the buttons made any difference. I found myself going into the CSS editor and making the changes myself, and then I realized I could just do that in Calibre. But the epub still looked awful on the Nook, so I think the Nook won't read style sheets that are separate from the epub, so the formatting needs to be built into the epub.

Then getting help from the Nook, Calibre & Sigil forums seems to me to be your next course of action.

Cool Update: Does anyone have a good edition of the James Potter Series?

It seems that there is a new one coming called ""James Potter and the Morrigan Web", due out... sometime. Maybe next spring?" says author G. Norman Lippert at goodreads, com. Hopefully they'll be available as EPUBs & MOBIs as well as the traditional PDFs.

What, then, are we saying is the situation with these?
Are we calling them illegal ?
Can't say I've discerned a definitive opinion, 'cept Harry on the plagiarism question, which does seem a logical standpoint to me.

I mean, this is fan fiction right? He's not charging for the epubs, and there's not an actual James Potter series that he's taking readers away from, so it's not like they could sue for damages.

Or at least, if they could sue him they'd have to sue every teenage girl that writes Harry/Draco slash fiction on their deviantART.
