When the microfiber cloth doesn't cut it, I use this screen cleaner I tried from Monoprice (http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2). Works like a charm, and I've had no ill effects.
I always used microfiber cloths, but they leave tiny smudges. I bought a chamois leather cloth which works a lot better!

You'd have to press really hard to scratch modern touchscreens. Why are you pressing so hard? That's not necessary.

The last thing I put a screen protector on was a Casiopeia E-115 PDA back in 2000. That made sense because it was a resistive touch screen with a stylus. I probably should've put one on my DS, but I didn't. Nothing else I own will ever have a screen protector on it, and I will be $10-15 richer per device for it

In regard to screen cleaning: in most cases a microfiber cloth alone does it. If you must use liquid for cases of heavy buildup, mmake sure and spray the liquid on the cloth, not on the screen.

In the TV world, there are many stories of ruined LCD TVs because the liquid ran down under the edge of the frame where it wicked up underneath the glass and ruined the display. I'm not sure eink screens would suffer from the same problem, but I wouldn't risk it.

Especially on those touchscreens. I wouldn't trust any free-flowing liquid on that screen!
